Chatter, Congrats & Questions 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread

One of the first 2 was DD2's roommate during AIM. DD2 was pretty excited to hear about her offer of appointment.
I hope your daughter gets appointed too. It really is heartwarming that these AIMSTERS bonded so well and so easily over such a short time.

Do we know how many EA applications were submitted?

The decision letter was posted in his Bear Den. I will admit he had told me about it before today I just didn't know if he knew exactly what he was looking for so I asked him for his login information

Thank you for the kind thought. Yes, she received her offer a couple of weeks ago. Just waiting on DODMERB clearance before she accepts.

Does anyone know how many applicants there are for EA? Of those applicants, do we know how many of the files have been reviewed?

Prob no way to know that w/out asking admissions. Not sure if this year will be similar. From an earlier post I saw on the forum...
Class of 2025 stats
2223 applications were submitted
747 early applications were reviewed. 246 were offered appointments
1321 regular applications were reviewed. 147 were offered appointments
Target # for that class was 285.

General question - I know this is a hypothetical since not everyone offered a spot will accept and some won't make it through medical but what would happen taking the class of 2025 numbers is all offered accepted and the target size was 285? The class offered was 393

Historically, USCGA has a good idea what percentage will accept, so they base the numbers of appointment offers off of those percentages.

Some of those offered appointments during EA have already responded yes or no by the time Regular application decisions are made. If USCGA saw 100% acceptances from their EA offers, then they would most likely adjust the number of offers to the Regular admissions applicants.

This is called "yield" and every college, SA, etc. knows what they will get within reason as far as matriculation is concerned.

COVID changed this for many schools, but USCGA knows how many to "offer" and their idea of who will accept is much better than "good" when it comes to admissions - SA or RA. ;)

Yes, I understand yield. USMA97 asked a hypothetical question, so I answered how Admissions would likely respond in the hypothetical situation that every applicant offered a spot accepted it.

Wow, ok!

👍 that you understand what yield is, but it wasn't implied that you didn't know what it meant as it was explained for the others that might not know what it is!

Anyway, as far as your answer for the hypothetical that was asked, @USMA97 didn't even ask what would happen if all EA offers were accepted, but instead asked what would happen if ALL offers were accepted.

To actually answer the hypothetical asked by @USMA97: it literally would never happen and if it did there would be retractions of offers and likely deferments as USCGA cannot obviously take on that many cadets.

My only point was that USCGA Admissions has a better than "good" (as the word was used) idea of what the take rate and yield will be.

Of course 100% would never accept or be medically qualified, but it’s possible that they could end up with more than the stated goal class size.

If they ended up with more than the goal size I don’t think any retractions of offers would happen. There would be more triple rooms than normal and they would reduce OCS class sizes the year of graduation.

That's why they don't start the RA boards until well after the EA notices are out. They get a pretty good feel for this year's actual yield and have a chance to adjust their RA goals to match the expected slots available. They've done this a few times and can read the tea leaves pretty well at this point.

Odd things happen all the time and they have to roll with them. For example, during the swab summer of 2020 they backed off from some of the traditional order and pace of things simply because the periods of isolation that were required pre-vaccine meant they couldn't get everyone together for PT as often. What they found was the rate of injuries went way down, doing the CFA tests later in the summer meant more people passed, fewer cadets dropped out, and so on, so some of those changes were kept for 2021. The administration is pretty smart at ol' USCGA.

Are there any recruited athletes here that have NOT yet heard if they have received an appointment?

I’m sure there are recruited athletes who haven’t heard yet. My son was a recruited athlete last year. He applied EA on the EA deadline day (so I think that was 10/15) and didn’t get his appointment offer till 12/10 (call from coach/AO). Bear’s Den not updated till 12/12.

I think some of the delay in PT/PFE this past summer was also because of the new process where all incoming cadets got electrocardiograms. My understanding from my son’s letters was that they held off on much of the more physically exerting stuff until after everyone had completed their ECG and been cleared. I think the ECG process is very smart on the Academy’s part - good to weed out an previously unknown heart conditions. Plus, with potential heart involvement from COVID infection and/or the COVID vaccines, the timing was especially good.

Thanks for your reply. The more time that goes by, the harder the wait becomes, and the more doubt that crawls into my mind. It's good to know that recruited athletes didn't all know before December for the 2025 class.

The process can be different for every applicant. My best advice to you having gone through the process is to remind yourself, no news is good news, learn patience, and trust the process. If your applicant is deserving the CGA will figure that out. They don’t rush the admissions process and give each applicant due diligence. For perspective, my DS applied EA (recruited athlete), didn’t hear until January and was deferred to RA, didn’t hear until late March about conditional appointment to CGAS and ultimately didn’t receive medical waiver until mid/late May. He is now thriving at NAPS and is glad the Academy took the time with admissions and put him at the right place and gave him the prep year to adjust, grow, and mature.

Also many recruited athletes wind up in prep school programs, so they haven’t heard yet.
