Chatter, Congrats & Questions 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread

Per Mr. Mullen:

Yes
No.
I'd have to defer to the specific Academies. Medical waivers granted in DoDMERB doesn't correlate to those admitted. There are some that are granted medical waivers that don't get offered an appointment and there are those applicants that decline their appointments. So, being smart, I defer to those that grant the medical waivers, to answer for their accuracy.
***If the answer came from someone in Admissions, I would take that to be true. If it was made by someone else, I wouldn't be so sure.:wiggle:

Class of 285 or so and 171 required a medical waiver after being DQ'd? That's just simply hard to believe.

USCGA gave you those numbers in writing? Wow.

CLARIFICATION OF A STATEMENT:

STATEMENT: "There was a statement made that this year's class at USCGA (CO 2025) had 60% of the cadets being granted a medical waiver, and that sounds unbelievably high (the number, not the statement ;))."

WHAT REQUIRES CLARIFICATION, BECAUSE I THINK THERE'S A MISINTERPRETATION OF WHAT WAS SAID: Larry's opinion only....What was probably being said (or should have been implied if not stated) was 60% of those cases forwarded for medical waiver consideration, were approved.......VICE....60% of the admitted class required a medical waiver :spacecraft:

I'm going to assume the notifications will pickup again on Monday after the academy returns to work
Soooo.... it doesn't look like appointments really picked up at all last week. I am thinking a lot of them will be rolling out this week??? The closer we get to 12/23, the more hope I loose. However, considering nobody posted about receiving a written appointment in their Bears Den last week, maybe they are just behind? This process is certainly difficult.

Mr. Mullen-

I also thought that the 60% statistic was perhaps an error or misunderstanding and it might have meant that 60% of those that requested a waiver were granted one?

However, the 60% statistic was apparently applying to ALL admitted (matriculated?) cadets for 2025. This came from someone that identified as being a USCGA "Admissions Partner" that had been given that info in "this year’s briefings/training" at some point.

As I said earlier, in a class of 285 or so and 171 required a medical waiver after being DQ'd just seemed simply hard to believe.

Looks like the movement has started again, AO called DS this evening with appointment. Good luck everyone. Btw...he's not a recruited athlete. And applied 2 days prior to deadline day.
Congratulations!
I hope you've added him to the the self-reporting thread.

I don't know the source of the Admissions Partners' information, it could have been either incorrectly presented or interpreted (or both) at the briefing/training they attended, but since medical waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis the data [number of medically disqualified applicants receiving appointments or being granted waivers or ultimately accepting their appointments] can vary significantly from year-to-year. Last year, there were 142 medically disqualified applicants conditionally appointed, 98 were granted medical waivers for their disqualifying condition(s), and 74 accepted their full appointments to the Class of 2025.

Thanks @Objee for the clarification. I am one of the people who had heard during an Admissions Brief that 60% of applicants required a medical waiver last year. Obviously that was wrong. I guess I may have misinterpreted, but I've seen a couple others on the forums state the same statistic and it was even given in comparison to the usual ~30%. Thank you for the facts to clear up the question.

In any case, the actual statistic is not what is important. The point is that applicants should not get discouraged just because they have a medical DQ. Thanks again.

USCGA Admissions Officers were the ones giving the stats. I was shocked at the 60% number also. I am also an Admissions Partner and we were given those stats in this year’s briefings/ training.
I concur. Heard exactly the same numbers from coach and admissions.

After a few weeks of little activity, it looks like activity is picking back up! I just got "the call" from my AO!! :D Keep your phone ringers turned up!
Still no change in Bears Den though. I'll update the appointment thread when I receive confirmation.
I updated thread since AO told DD to celebrate with friends and family😉 Bears Den update could take a while.

Do you all think that any appointments will happen over the weekend?
From what I have seen looking through forum posts, people have posted about receiving calls from their admissions officers during the weekend in notification of their appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy. Good luck! :)

Edit: Going back and looking through again, I see just one recent post where someone mentioned their DD getting a call on a Sunday. It is certainly a possibility, but most people appear to be receiving calls from their AO, or notification of their appointments otherwise, on business days. If you'd like to research yourself, you may choose the "this forum" option in the search bar menu when on the USCGA forum main page, and you may enter various search terms such as "ao call", "notified", etc. You may also look at the self-updating appointment thread and refer to the dates that people input. :)

Thank you - my DS really expected to know by now but its just a process - he has heard from coach last week who said he will let DS know as soon as he knows. I think having a rolling EA is interesting my other kids knew the day they would find out and not as stressful. We keep telling him that he has done ALL of the work to put himself in the best position possible.

People certainly have received appointments over the weekend this year (especially calls from coaches for recruited athletes I think). Since the Dec 23 deadline is not too far away, I would expect more appointments to be sent out over the weekend.

So December 23 is the deadline for EA notifications? My DD applied regular and her AO said they don't even look at those applications until February. Sounds like there will be a big gap after next week.

Looking back at last year's thread, it appears that no RA appointments were tendered until March.
