Chatter, Congrats & Questions 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread

It matters if you were medically qualified at the time of the appointment. If you're not, they'll wait until your medical fit. After you are qualified, you'll have to fill out some information then it'll might be 1.5-2 weeks I've heard?
Thanks! He is qualified :) he did fill something on the portal is that it or another layer? Thanks!!

The threads have gone very quiet. Has anyone heard anything since the beginning of the month? We are still anxiously waiting to hear.
Wondering the same here. Our DS was EA, put back in the queue. Had got a call from the coach a few weeks ago about sending in 7th semester grades, etc. but nothing since. From looking at the last few years' lists, it seems like they will hear soon. A good % happen in March. Would think that admissions is still open during Spring Break. :)

The conditional appointment expires on May 15th if student doesn't get medical waiver or appointment. I believe other colleges need commitment/signing by May 1st. Hopeful for waiver but we won't be able to wait until May 15, in case one isn't granted.
Any insights on the dates?
Thanks.

So just to clarify, we are waiting/hoping for a call from our AO at this point, correct? This is how all of the non-athlete recruits are being notified? And if it's a denial, the update will be in the Bears Den? Do we know if they are notifying the people who were denied at this point, as well or do those come at the end?

Yes the call usually comes in a week before the actual letter for EA. I sure it'll be the same for RD but I'm not 100% sure good luck! You got this!

My DS - class of 21 applied EA- was deferred then was waitlisted at some point Received a call May 2 (after we had sent a May 1 deposit to villanova ) and was told there was 1 open spot- they gave him 3 days to make a decision. He accepted. Graduated With an EE degree and is stationed on an NCC in Alameda. Fingers crossed for you all. It's a very rough 4 years - but he got through it. 🇺🇸

According to the Important Dates on this page: https://www.uscga.edu/apply/ everyone should get some sort of decision by April 1st.
Now that we are in the Regular Application group, that could be:
- appointment
- conditional appointment
- prep appointment
- conditional prep appointment
- denied
- waitlist

So, if you are waitlisted or still need a medical waiver, you still might have to wait a little longer.

It is worth contacting your plan B school to let them know your situation. Some of them will be understanding and let you back out if you get the appointment after their decision date.

Can anyone provide an insight into this situation. My daughter who is a recruited athlete was moved from EA to RA. She has a medical appeal submitted on her behalf from UGCGA to the DOBMER.

What is the process for medical appeals?

Do you know will she hear back by the April 1 release date for RA?

Any information. Is much appreciated!
Thanks

From my understanding, DODMERB is very black and white and just decides DQ or Qualified. That's it. The waiver process is decided by each SA. So if USCGA wants her, then they are the ones to make the decision about whether to give her a medical waiver. DODMERB is not involved in the waiver process.

I don't know of any case where USCGA would need DODMERB to change their decision for an applicant, since USCGA has the waiver authority for their applicants.

In the past USCGA has said they will only consider medical waivers for candidates after a conditional appointment offer has been made.

Thank you for this information.

One more question. She was told she would hear by April 1. Do you think this is still the case considering she has not received any update from DODMERB other than it’s under review?

She will get some sort of decision by April 1st. If she has a DQ from DODMERB, then that will be either
1) denied
2) conditional appointment to CGA
3) conditional appointment to CGAS (prep school)
4) waitlisted

In past years, many decisions were given out throughout March. If she gets her decision before April 1st and her DQ is something "minor" to USCGA, then she could get a waiver quickly. But I know in past years, some applicants have had to wait quite a while to receive a decision on the waiver.

It's a relief to know nobody else is hearing much of anything. We are all anxiously waiting for RD phone calls! Of course, the entire applicant pool is not on SAF.

I called my AO last week since my Bears Den account showed the wrong phone number and confirmed it is, in fact, correct. So they are in the office and working hard! My "Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review Complete" box is not checked, but it sounds like a mixed bag as to who gets a call before/after that actually shows as a checked box.

Not much to do but go to the gym or hurry up and wait...

From my understanding and having been through the admission EA to RA process and waiver process is that USCGA doesn’t request official waiver until conditional appointment if offered. Have you heard from USCGA that they requested a waiver or it just says on DoDmerb site “under waiver review”? Because I believe that once a DQ is issued it automatically says under waiver review. USCGA only moves forward with waivers for candidates that have received appointments, which then become conditional upon being medically cleared/waived. I do know that medical issues are not considered in the decision to offer appointment or not.

Your dates sound correct. My DS went through same situation and committed to Plan B with complete honesty with Plan B coach. We had to put housing deposit but were lucky it was only $100. Medical waiver came through second week of May and this let Plan B know he wouldn’t be attending. Always have a back up, never know what can happen.

Still waiting to hear as well! It was just nice today to hear from other people still waiting too. One thing that happened last week was that we received an email asking for the latest transcript. My DS sent them in right away, they said they added them to his file and then we went right back to waiting again!

Wanted to share this with the community with regards to our timeline:

DS got deferred during EA. DS not recruited as an athlete. Got a call from the AO a week ago or so ago letting DS knows that he has a conditional appointment pending medical waiver and the waiver process has been started. The DOD medical website changed to under waiver review. A week or so later DS got an email letting him know that he got the waiver and another email stating that he was accepted. DOD website changed status to Waiver granted. Bear Den portal posted the appointment letter.

Good luck to all waiting.

Am I understanding this correctly. A phone call from AO proceeds an email communicating acceptance or denied?
