... unfortunately I was not awarded a scholarship ...
T-Bone. Be sure you understand what a 4 year type 7 is per the discussion earlier in this thread. Also pay close attention to Pima's response. Depending on where your DS wants to attend school you could be looking at 3 year Army vs 3 year Air Force. Read the fine print (unless you already have of course).
Will do, thanks! The AROTC was only for UT, our in-state U (TN) and the way I understand it he has to go to an in-state school for AF too if he takes the four year option. So, it would probably be the same school either way. I really appreciate you, Pima and everyone else who contributes to this thread. You have all have been our biggest help in all of this.
VirginiaDad, make sure you contact UVa admissions and notify them that your son received the scholarship. We've done that for both NROTC and AFROTC scholarships that my son was awarded this year. The admissions department will be very quick in updating your son's admissions file. Every little bit of an edge helps when trying to get into UVa. Congratulations!
rupewvu, My son interviewed with the Lt. Col. An absolutely stand-up officer. The Air Force should be honored to have individuals of this quality in their ranks.
VirginiaDad, Judging by the quality of officers leading UVa's detachment, our kids will be in good hands if that's the path they choose to take. My daughter is currently a 4th year at UVa and I have nothing but great things to say about Mr. Jefferson's university. My only concern for my son is that his major is aerospace engineering and their aerospace department is pretty small. I believe there are only around 270 undergrads in the aerospace department. My daughter's engineering department (civil) is fairly small, also. But the quality of education is hard to match. Even though my son has been a high performer, with a 30% acceptance rate we are still waiting on pins and needles for his acceptance letter.
Denied - should get letter w/in next few weeks according to portal. Were you reboarded? Or denied? It's possible it make take a few days to do all the updates I suppose. You still have the three year Army to ERAU, right? (yes, i know you wanted to transfer to Penn)
I believe this scholarship will pay the instate tuition of $16754 + $900 for books and the stipend.I live in Illinois, and I received a 4-year type 7 scholarship. If I go with AFROTC it will be at the University of Illinois which has a tuition rate of $16,754 per year for in-state tuition in my desired engineering major, and there are fees of $3,500 dollars per year. How much will my 4-year type-7 scholarship cover?
