In other news, our daughter and I accidentally and without any planning both earned our associates degrees last night. From the same college. The same degree. No planning. Serendipity.

33 years since I started college. And she is now a pre law student pursuing her dreams.

We got to walk together, sit together, and she knocked me down to go first to the stage (kidding, seriously though MID sibs are competitive). She officially is the first of our little nuclear unit to get a degree. I couldn’t have smiled more.

Got a text from her MIDN brother during the ceremony. He is proud of both of us.

Note to self, get rid of negative self talk and get ballsy before you are 51.

I hope people are having fun with this. For instance, when my 50-something mom went back and got a masters degree I got her a card with $20.

But the congratulations for her were sincere, just as mine are for you. Way to get back after it, mom.

Thank you. It seems silly to celebrate a small milestone. But when negative self talk and doubt rule you for decades, achieving this is a milestone.
I was so lucky to experience this with my daughter. My mom has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t know this is happening.
Making memories in real time is my new life plan

And a great plan it is!!

As one that put off extended education until the bullets stopped flying...I absolutely appreciate how awesome it feels to reach such an incredible milestone.

Regardless of your age...when the paperwork gets handed to you, it's a "top of the world" sensation.

With all the sincerity I can muster: CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUCCESS!

Nope, not silly to celebrate an important accomplishment and so cool to share it with a daughter. Keep making those memories!

Its never silly to celebrate a small milestone. We should do more of that. It’s actually one of the keys to success of accomplishing big milestones. Congrats!
This is so true and while I believed it for my kids and friends it took me a long time to do it for myself.
June 1 I start a new career working remotely for a defense contractor and while nervous, I’m excited. Little steps turn into big ones.
Thank you!

Did you and DD throw your graduation caps into the sky, USNA style? Congrats to both of you!
Nope, we exited stage left and went home to have a cocktail. We are both gifting the caps to students of mine who will graduate next year.

Congratulations on a job well done..
Now, get that Bachelors also..
It’s on my radar. But I start the new gig 1 June and need to be ready to learn and do well for the company.

Simultaneously, I applied for and received a grant to pay for certificate training and tests such as Sec+ and others thru May of 2025. I start Sec + this week. Thankfully online and self paced.

The job I landed is one of a handful that doesn’t require the Sec + but I want to obtain it and others anyway.

Proposal writing here I come! The home office is really taking shape.

Thank you all for the kind words and support.

This forum helps grown-ups, too!
