Chicken Sandwich War of 2021

This is amazing news. We have a Popeye's on post, but I don't go on post often. The city is currently reviewing permits for our very own Popeye's!! Whooohooo.

The big news this month is that Popeye's is going to...

wait for it...

market chicken nuggets by the end of July.

Bam!

I fear a very high ratio of breading to meat. This is also a problem with Popeye’s shrimp, which makes their shrimp almost un-orderable. The chicken tenders are PERFECTION. Don’t need nuggets, but I will keep an open mind and give the Nuggets a try. Does anyone else miss the Mardi Gras Mustard dipping sauce?

A city without Popeye's!? As a New Orleans native, that sentence is just horrifying and blasphemous. Your city better hurry up and approve that permit for Popeye's pronto.

❤️ Mardi Gras Mustard Sauce! Our local Popeye’s still has it…at least they did 2 weeks ago!

I do not fear the breading. You can't have crunch without breading and I like the crunch.

Maybe "go to war" wasn't the best choice of words there, but the Cathy family gets a lot of flak for just exercising free speech.
I say politics has no place in chicken sandwiches, but I feel responsible because I did name this thread.

Doh!

I don’t care about a restaurant owner’s religious beliefs as long as they are fairly mainstream. Even if I disagree with some of them. Certainly no reason to boycott them. DS is working at Chick-fil-A right now.

KFC chicken tenders are better then most of the recently offered sandwiches. McDonald's unfortunately stopped selling tenders when they started with their new sandwich. Zaxby's (which I don't think is a national chain) also has really good chicken.

Some of the best restaurants around me are run by the political opposite of me.

Great food but expensive. I support their businesses. Their quality means more to me than their politics. They tend to pay workers well and do a great job.

We need more disagreeing without being disagreeable, in this country.

Now back to chicken. Here's a brief history on the Chicken Sandwich War:

I have never heard of "Golden Chick", "BurgerFi", "Fuku", "Polo Campero" or "Fatburger", before reading this.

Wow...just discovered this thread ..you all are crazy !
(Kinda funny timing...I don't think I have had fast food in ages, and when I do rarely order chicken -- but just last week I had to kill a half hour between client meetings, and grabbed a McD's spicy chicken sandwich. I didn't think it was bad, but then I'm not a connoisseur like you all.)

Nor I. I had no idea fast food chicken carried with it an air of haughtiness.

I like your methodology and I appreciate the reviews. I however am not a pickle person, and I rarely want a bun. That having been said, I love ordering the kid's meal at Culver's. They have amazing chicken tenders, and their chicken sandwich is also on point.

I also like making my own hand-pounded chicken cutlets at home (the same method as when I make schnitzel).

Carry on with your research sir, well done.
My son, who is going to Rice, loves Culver's. I'm from western PA so I guess I'm missing out.

I’m not in sync with the politics of the Cathay family and I have grumbled at not being able to enjoy Chick-fil-A during a long drive on a Sunday.

However, they will always have my undying support. They close the stores on Sunday at a huge opportunity cost. Every employee, from the manager to the grease trap cleaner, should have set day off every week of every month of every year, which they and their families can count on. There is a lot of loud mouth “pro-family” rhetoric these days. This is walking the walk.

A police officer is assigned to the street going into the shopping center of the local Chick fil A. All CFAs should be on a lot away from other businesses and thoroughfares. They need plenty of parking and room for the wrap-around lines.

The IHOP next to my CFA enjoys the extra business and parking spots on Sundays.

I agree with the poster who talked about KFC’s inconsistency. I’m fond of getting 3 chicken tenders as a “protein snack.” If I go to the one on West St. in Annapolis and the lovely woman with the lilt of the islands is working, the crust is hot and crispy, the chicken is moist, tender and steamy. If I go to the one outside Ft. Meade’s Mapes Gate, it is always dry rubber bands, and I kick myself every time.

And let’s not even talk Royal Farms, supposedly known for their fresh, made-on-premises fried chicken. During the pandemic, we were desperate for a change of pace, so after years of seeing various Baltimore Ravens endorsing RF with gusto, I brought some home. DH looked at me and said, “Never again.”
That's very sad. When I worked at the drone factory (Hunt Valley MD), the local Royal Farms was top notch although one of my coworkers was extremely derisive toward "Gas Station Chicken"

Yesterday DH brought home a 'hand-breaded crispy chicken sandwich'. While I cannot attest to it actually being hand-breaded. I must say it was quite good. I am not a pickle fan, DH is. It had very large crispy pickles which he said were good. I liked the sauce. I ditched the bun (he liked it) and just ate the chicken. It was generously sized and better than expected.

Would I order it again sans pickle? Yes.

Also, it was generously large enough that I had a bite left to split amongst the dogs. They gave it a 10 out of 10.

Oh forgot to say, it was from Burger King.
