Well DS made it to the airport and lo an behold the flight is cancelled. I'm looking forward to hearing the story. Great opportunity for him and the other three to work together and grow from this experience. I'm sure this is not the first time flights have been cancelled and I see that two other flights from cities are also cancelled.

As I told my daughter before Day 1 in ROTC......the 1st skill you need to master in the military is the ability to *hurry up and wait*. Six years later and she still gets frustrated when it takes 4-6 hours to complete a task that should take no more than 10-15 minutes.

Hurry up and wait will be so true today. Luckily they are at Ohare and it sounds like there are 20 other cadets there also. Supposed to arrive at midnight :) Great way though to bound together right away.

3 year scholarship, non contracted cadet here. I'm headed to ft. knox next month and wanted to know what to do about luggage if I don't have a cac. Also what paperwork were your kids/you told to bring? I was told nothing. @uwknight

Well DS made it along with 4 others. They got into Louisville at 1 am and went to Ft. Knox. Bright side, good training for Ranger, no sleep :) To answer some of your question mmffss, similar situation but its working out. DS got official orders about two weeks out and received his flight confirmation 3 days before he left. That might be typical but others can speak to that. There is another thread that has the packing list for non-contracted and that is exactly what DS got before he left school for summer. He also received some patches and some other things. He had a compass, but his cadre was going to give on to him. We did get boots since he didn't have any in which gave him a month to somewhat break them in. He took his own duffel and backpack, and he did call this morning since he needed routing info bank.

Looks like you leave before DS gets done so I won't know how everything went in terms of non-contracted. All I know is he is excited, he likes it, he feels like he is part of a family. You can only control what you can control. Get in touch with your cadre/school to voice your concerns.

What year is he is school? Just wondering when my DD would or could go?

He is a rising sophomore, and a 3 year winner non-contracted.
My incoming freshman is just itching to go somewhere and do something!! I told her summer between freshman and sophomore year she will still be working at the pool!! lol !! All her upperclassmen friends are off doing ROTC related things, she is green with envy!!

thank you! I will remember to bring banking info, was he told how much he would be paid for this? I don't have boots and will likely be living with blisters for the month or so I'm there.

My son is headed for CIET on July 16. When and how do we find out about his flight plans? And does anyone have the packing list for contracted cadets? His seems to be missing.

My son didn't find out his flight information until the week before departure. Search the threads here or online for packing list...easy to find.
