As a plebe, are civilian clothes authorized? My friend tells me that civis are not allowed as a plebe and that all travel to and from the academy must be made in a cadet uniform. is this true?

That has been the rule this year. Last year, plebes were allowed to leave in civi's. It depends on the comm/BTO

You might need a change of 'civis' for your walking privileges.
Which might be the clothe you walk on with. But other than that you are in uniform.

Including Travel to and from the academy.. Moms love this part..:thumb:

Sorry, I meant once they arrive to their destinatation.

Cadets went into NYC for the long holiday weekend. Traveled there in uniform.
Once they arrived, they slipped into something a little more comfortable. caught a baseball game, movies and some siteseeing... Once weekend was over.. They traveled back in uniform..

They loved it...

My cousin is a Cow at West Point. He told me to take two dress outfits (pollo and khakis) and another leisure outfit (tee shirt and jeans) for the rare opportunities you can wear them.

Rather, he said that your parents bring them up to you on A-Day.

The only clothes you need to bring as a plebe are clothes to change into when you travel (khakis, polo/sweater, jacket) and clothes to relax in your room in (lax pinnies, etc.) depending on how strict your company is.

Your company will also probably sell some "spirit gear" - normally t-shirts and/or shorts with the company logo, that you can wear around the barracks.

And for the love of God, bring some decent shoes. Nothing makes you stick out worse than wearing low quarters, running shoes, or combat boots with your khakis at the airport.

I thought cadets had to travel in uniform...
Also, when plebes and upperclassmen have privileges to walk around town, can they be in civies or do they need to be in uniform?

As a Plebe....

you are required to be in uniform.
