Class '2026 Plebe Parents Weekend

Glad to know the parade is on Saturday! I will be able to make that one with his littlest bro!

On the call yesterday, he asked if he could get together with his NROTC buddies from last year at UMBC. I was like ...... uhhh, no! The plebes haven't been briefed on what they can and can't do yet, per him. He said they have some briefs this week. I told him that no one could drive him but us, and he has to be in uniform the whole time.

They can gives a tour after noon formation. I've seen the inside of Bancroft of course, but my wife hasn't. We'll have to see if we can fit it in!

Good morning. Catching up with social media this morning and just read this.
Sponsoring your own DD or DS, is that allowed?
If you live close but just outside the town liberty area, I believe your plebe can put in a blanket chit for approval to travel to and from home with you. He or she can sort that out with their chain of command.

As parents, your plebe can ride in a vehicle with you. If you live inside the town liberty limits, no permissions required, as they already have the privilege.

Parents do not have to request to be sponsors.

Does anybody know if we can go into Bancroft to my MID's room on Saturday after parade?
Highly doubt this. There’s a designated window, to ensure order and security (and to allow you to meet your plebe’s detailers, SEL and company officer, if desired). There’ll be mids on post the rest of the time, so you’d have to get past them. I wouldn’t try.

Of course, the best answer is for your plebe to ask their chain of command. If you can’t see the room this time, you’ll have another chance at 2/C parents weekend (said the 2022 dad whose 2/C PW was canceled by Covid 😉).

Not to sound flippant, and respecting your desire to have that “college” experience of seeing your kid’s room: All rooms are the same, except for size and layout. That model room on the first floor of Bancroft — they all look like that, down to the placement of uniforms in the closet and books on the shelf. Small, tidy, austere. Seen one, seen them all. 😏

I was so excited to see my DS room last summer. We spent about 2 minutes in it, met one officer (don't remember if Detailer or CO) and quickly left. DS was not about to waste time in Bancroft when liberty was at stake. Besides, after 1 year, he has been in 6(?) different rooms and two different decks. And when he reports back next week we add another room and deck to his list due to the C/o '25 company shuffle.

Yes, they allow families to visit their rooms. Looking at the schedule it appears to be Friday from 12:30 PM until 2 PM. Skip the King Hall meal, your DS/DD does not want to eat there. You can during the regular Ac Year. Tour the room for a few minutes and get out of there to a real meal and to catch up. As mentioned all rooms mostly look the same. 2, 3 and 4 man configurations slightly vary in layout. The room they are in for PPW is not their academic area. They will move next week sometime.

While I would have to agree, that the actual space (4 walls, bed, window, closet) is the same, seen one, seen them all (other than their bulletin boards), the experience was pretty cool. Seeing DS interact with his mates. Being introduced to friends and parents all around. Having detailers tell us how amazing he is. The atmosphere was a pretty awesome highlight for us. Maybe it’s different for different companies, but walking the the steps, and hearing and seeing the company camaraderie was amazing. DS was also pretty proud to show us his space and roomies. He also had to go there to pick up his phone to have for liberty FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A MINUTE (whoa the notifications 😂), so tagging along made sense, no matter if they want to show you or not.

There IS a standard display room available during tours, that you could see of you cannot make it this weekend.

We really enjoyed going up to DS’s room on PPW - and so did DS. We met several of his company-mates (and parents) whom we “got to know” via plebe summer pics. The bonding that took place over six weeks was nice to see. It’s really not about the room (they basically look the same). YMMV but I recommend seeing your plebe’s room (if your plebe wants to). As we found out, don’t count on 2/C weekend.

I just wanted to add one other thing that occurred me and I bet 26' parents have come to appreciate this during their "Where's Waldo" hunts this summer. In every company, there are a couple of people that stand out in pics - either because they are tall or (more likely) because they have a somewhat unique face that makes them stand out. Our plebe looked too much like a lot of other plebes to pick out in pics easily (we found one plebe in another company that could be his doppelganger). You use these more recognizable plebes to find your plebe's company (especially when you can't make out the guide on flag) - am I right, or do I exaggerate? Anyway, when you meet this highly recognizable plebe during PPW, please don't say what my wife cringingly said - "Oh! I'm so glad to actually meet the guy with the funny face!" Don't be that parent. Three years later, my DS still gets crap for that.

That is what I thought understood but I’m guessing people is using the sponsorship opportunity to see their plebes prior to PPW All good

Agree wholeheartedly with you both. The point I tried to make — rather clumsily and not as elegantly as you did — is this: There isn’t much to the room itself, hence not worth the trouble of going there outside of the standard PPW window. But meeting detailers, SEL, company officer during the designated time — priceless! Great clarification. 😉

I agree with all three of you...

True, the room is the room. Not much excitement there vs seeing an exact replica that is on display for the public to see.

However, getting to do that visit is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for non-Mids. Twice-in-a-lifetime if Covid doesn't @#$% things up like it did for this parent.

Oh my - the sponsor meet and greet was yesterday. I hadn’t thought about parents mixing themselves into that to snag visit time with their plebe off-book.

I do wonder how often the local parents do sponsorship. I guess you could sneak some time with your MID during the meetup, but you are still signing up to help another MID and then I guess maybe your son or daughter also can come home too. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't seem like a big deal, especially if that parent is a great sponsor to other Plebes.

I was thinking about those hypothetical parents who have not signed up for sponsoring anyone and just walked into Alumni Hall and went to find their plebe. There is no screening for who is attending. There are check-in tables to go collect your list of plebe assignments, but they are not at any access screening point. Sponsors go up to the detailers in charge of a unit and request Midn Plebe Name.

A loophole! Anyhow, I also noticed that Maryland Parents club was serving sandwiches and such and those parents who were there volunteering also got to see their kids. Loopholes all over the place! :D

At this point, as of now, on the official 2/C schedule for c/o ‘24, we ARE allowed into the rooms. And King Hall. And classrooms at the discretion of professors.

A traditional 2/C weekend!
