I k ow it's a bit early to be talking about a class motto, but I had an idea a while ago and wanted to see what my fellow Class of 2014 mates and others thought. Okay here it is:
Class of 2014 - Let Freedom Ring!

Tell me what you think. I hope it's not already taken.

I actually really like that, hopefully it will make it onto the ballot :thumb:

So far so good.
One or two of the classes in the 80s had inward-looking mottoes- a peacetime army in a prosperous era, in contrast to the post-9/11 heightened sense of mission [just in the mottoes; I wouldnt presume to judge the soldiers]. I like the sense of patriotism in this, but 2013's "For More Than Ourselves" got it all - the motive and the selflessness and devotion to service.

Just to clarify: "For more than ourselves" is the motto of 2012.

there's actually one thing i've thought about since most class mottos rhyme:
what will the classes of 2015, 2016, etc. do about their mottos? since there's only so many appropriate words that rhyme with "teen"

The motto does not have to rhyme so they will figure out something appropriate. Class of 2011's motto: For Freedom We Fight. Try finding a good rhyme for eleven!

"2015- we really are mean" "2016-Don't ask where we've been"? "2017-It was hard to get in"; "18- leading the team"etc.... You're right- it's a real dilema you have there. Better start thumbing thru old copies of "The Howitzer" . I'm pretty sure that nobody from the classes of 1915; 16; 17 etc aren't around to object to cribbing from them:biggrin:
Alternatively you might not sweat this detail so much until you actually are there gone thru Beast and started becoming a class. You'll come up wth something I'm sure

THE MOTTO NEEDS TO BE:

2014: Protecting the Dream

End of story :thumb:

Goodbye SAF. I fly for newark tomorrow morning.

Bruno makes a FANTASTIC point here. You're losing sight of what's actually important here: the journey ahead. Remember that, statistically speaking, at least two of the candidates on this board will not be members of the USMA Class of 2014. I know no one wants to think about that, as though it could only happen to "someone else" but it's the truth. Start preparing yourself for suffering and hardship, and worry less about window-dressing like class mottos. Cute mottos don't help you on a rainy mile 14 of a 15-mile march. Mental preparation will.

There have been some odd threads popping up lately, with questions about everything from what uniform to wear to Christmas events to making up class mottos. Please remember that your first focus is to actually become MEMBERS of the Class of 2014 initially, and then stay to become lifetime members of the class as alumni. Those goals should have your utmost attention.
