Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

I don't think right now it is available because of how the FY system works. Come October when they report FY12 it will be different.

We are off topic here since this is an AFA forum, but that being stated, from what I know AFROTC has not re-instated the IS program to the fullest. It is very, very select because of the limited funding.

Remember AFA which is the big bulk for commissioning has been cut! The AF will protect them 1st. They are not going to throw scholarship money out willy nilly. They know if they give it and the ROTC cadet goes to SFT/graduates their hands are getting tied.

Your DS is at an SMC, and that is important for posters/lurkers to understand. I am not a betting woman, but I am willing to bet GMU (VA IS college) is not as competitive as VT when it comes to scholarships.

I know you couldn't care left, right or in between regarding this issue, and you are just curious.

Thanks Pima. And sorry for getting this thread off-topic! LOL I remember that I did that quite a bit last year! It was my "signature" move! Until I figured out how to get on the "right" thread for my question, concern etc. But look how quickly I went back to my evil ways! But I did redeem myself in the last post, as it was about the nom process for AFA. Give me a point for THAT! :shake:

Glad to hear that news, eboyd! It was a great Valentines Day phone call for me when DS called to share the news!

VA,

Using southern slang...Darlin no need to redeem yourself.

It is really, really important for posters and lurkers for 16 to take heart with vamom's posts.

Life for many will stink in @ 4 weeks when the TWE arrive.

Candidates will have to re-think everything. Parents will be Snoopy and hover over the mailbox waiting for the shoe to fall from the sky.

This is not an easy yr, and honestly the hardest in many yrs. Hearts/Dreams will be broken.

You can scream, shout, vent, blame. Get it out of your system, and do it behind your child's back. I told vamom to do this, but once done you need to move on and make a plan.

As she stated her DS wanted to re-apply last spring. He had their support. vamom still made going to college as the best thing since hot sliced bread.

She gives me too much credit, because in reality, it was her that told her DS to dust himself off after the TWE, and the AFROTC scholarship rejection. It was her that said you can do it.

All I ever do is to remind people that the decision is on paper and not on their desire. That with the military timing is a factor. Had he been born in 1991 he would have had a better chance, but he wasn't born in 91, he was born in 93. He had no control over the budget cuts or when he was born.

My very best wishes to every 16 candidate. Just remember if you can say I gave 100% than you will be fine.

As my Old Man used to say, "Hope and Plan for the Best, but also plan for the Worst." That way you are ready for whatever happens.

I just wanted to say "Thank you to Vamom!!" I'm sure none of us want to think about it, but we may very well be wearing the same pair of shoes you wore last year. Here's hoping our DS/DD will fair just as well as your DS. Ans to all the moderators, thank you for all your priceless information.:thumb:

When one door closes, often another opens. It pays to pay attention and not be so distracted by the door that closed that we miss the new door opening.....

I personally think you are exactly ON topic! One of the wonderful things about being human is that we have the ability (should we choose to exercise it) to CHOOSE how we react to any given situation. We can choose (probably unconsciously) to react negatively, or we can make a conscious choice to react in a positive way, no matter what the circumstances. All other things being equal, regardless of the circumstances, choosing to react in as positive a manner as possible, will typically, in the long run, turn out to be the wisest choice, the choice that is most beneficial to our well being.

Having more information about the choices that are available, and the outcomes that are possible, helps us arm ourselves to better react in a positive manner, no matter whether we get a TWE or the much desired BFE. Thank you for your input. It is most valuable.

waiting, waiting, waiting...

So I am guessing more BFEs were mailed out yesterday. (Board meets all day Monday, decisions made Tuesday, BFEs mailed out Wednesday)

My DS is in Florida, so possibly Saturday, probably Monday....this is driving me crazy.......

online or mail?

I'm not sure if this has already been asked on here, but will our admission decisions be posted on our online application before they show up in the mail? I have been stalking my online application for the past week.

MOC was the first to notify my DD....online status changed one week later followed by the BFE the next day.

It varies. Some get a MOC call first. Others see the portal change first. DS's first indication was the BFE in the mailbox.

Good luck and happy stalking (both cyber and mailbox).

You're actual Certificate of Appointment will come from your ALO, later. The BFE is basically just the information packet that lets you know what is coming your way. My son received his Certificate of Appointment in a wonderful ceremony during the awards assembly at his school last year. It is certainly a little more "Impressive" than the BFE.

This must depend on the ALO, we never heard anything from ours last year. All we got was the BFE in the mail.

Shouldn't most be handed out in March? It's only half way through February...

You are correct, of course. "Most" appointments will be sent out during the month of March. Just attempting to think positively, as "some" will come out sooner.

Remember the way the system works, no MOC will be charged until everyone on the slate has been awarded a WCS. Applications are not closed until the end of Feb., so it is possible that candidates are now just submitting their CFAs.

This is a puzzle system because many candidates have multiple noms, and so it is constantly moving around to get the best class possible. It is not just take prin or number 1 from each slate and move on.

For example, suppose 1 candidate has 4 noms, and on 2 of the slates is the highest WCS. The AFA now can award them to 1 MOC, but that will impact both slates. The one they are not awarded to will award it to #2, but that candidate may also have a Presidential, so do they award him from the MOC or the Pres? Either way it will impact the other slate. So on and so forth.

Add into this that those who got early appointments are not going to have 100% acceptance rate, which places that MOC back into the equation.

I would think this yr, as Flieger stated months ago will have the bulk come out March, and maybe up to April like it did last yr. Mass mailing is not done on one day for every candidate, it comes out in dribbles over @ 2-3 weeks starting the 1st week of March.

Not sure some of these kids are gonna MAKE it till 1 March Pima...!!!:biggrin:

Best

I know Romad. What every candidate needs to learn as their mantra for every branch in the military is HURRY UP AND WAIT. The sooner they accept that the happier they will be!

As my TI informed us in no uncertain terms at Lackland many years ago - The oft repeated "This ain't BK, you DON'T get it your way, you get it OUR way or ya DON'T get it at ALL!!!!!".

Still applies and I've been fortunate that my candidate has apparently accepted that fact (sort of :yllol: )

Best

a.olson,

You don't need to stalk your portal hourly or daily. Just like they mail out BFE certain days of the week, the same is true about your portal. If I recall correctly it is Wed. and Monday, maybe it was Friday. You can check every day of the week, but it really is sim. to the college admission process.

They spend days inputting the data and when that group is complete in the system, the system counts down to X hour and spews it all out for that group. It is not like here on these forums, where you type something in and hit enter, VOILA it is there.

They do this for many reasons, and one of the reasons is for the MOCs and ALO's. Could you imagine if they have 15 candidates and everyday they are getting notified of another candidate? ALO's are volunteers with lives, and this could be problematic for them. I know you want the answer as soon as possible, but honestly in 4 yrs from now when you graduate waiting 1 or 2 more days for the appointment won't matter.

Good luck

Romad, I remember hearing that all the time when the IP/IWSO's were complaining about someone. Same with the comment that there is your way and the AF way, guess which way you will do it!
