Class of 2017- College Application List

I reapplied to NU and was reaccepted

Looked on banner web today and was denied acceptance to North Georgia. Pretty shocked and disappointed but I will be calling them this week to see if there's anything I can do to change that.

Congrats. The Citadel and Norwich both want my first semester grades however I have decided to just start the process of enlistment before college.

Sorry to hear that

Im sorry to hear that. I think that since the cadets are getting in state tuition that the school is probably getting more applications than ever before. Maby you could re-apply?

Congratulations to those accepted

It's amazing how many have heard from so many schools. I won't be hearing until February to April. I didn't apply ED because I'm hoping for an ROTC scholarship to atleast one of them...
I've applied to:
Wake Forest
UVA
Duke
William and Mary
Furman
University of Richmond
Rollins College
USNA (still need to take CFA, so app incomplete for the next week)

Congratulations & best of luck : )

I am a current knob in the class of 2016, and I recieved my acceptance letter less than a week after applying. However, I didn't apply until late April/early May of my senior year of high school. Any questions about the school please feel free to PM me or post on this thread.

Hi - my son has been accepted at the Citadel and is planning to attend. We did an overnight visit in October. While it was an eye opener for him, he is still passionate about attending. Can you give home any advice on "surviving" freshman year? Tips, strategies, best battalion, worst, teachers, clubs etc. any help to ease a mother's anxiety would be appreciated : )

Ps I will tell him of this site so he can contact you directly

Found on my daughters visit to the Citadel a few weeks back that she was the first Cadet accepted from the Class of 2013! Still waiting to see if she gets taken off of waitlist for North Georgia. She is supposed to hear something this week. She also recd 56,000 in scholarship money (14000 per yr) to Norwich.

I've been accepted to both Texas A&M and The Citadel. Both seem like great options and I'm really not sure which school to decide. I have yet to visit either of the schools, so hopefully I can do that as soon as possible!

Update-my daughter was removed from North georgia waitlist and now is accepted woohoo. think that is where she will be going. She is so excited.

For those of you seeking a military college experience, you might also want to consider SUNY Maritime. Over 80% of the students belong to the Regiment of Cadets.

http://www.sunymaritime.edu

Absolutely Agree. The Maritime colleges are a really interesting blend of military college environment (less rigorous physically and emotionally than VMI or the Citadel programs but still much more so than your typical Civilian college environment) combined with a really solid and focused technical education. As Marist has said- NY Maritime (Ft Schuyler) is about 80% in the Regiment, and Mass Maritime requires mandatory participation in the regiment and Maine about 50%.
While you don't have to pursue getting a 3rd Mate or 3AEng License at any of the Statee Academies anymore, they offer that option and along with that comes 3 cruises - (Sea terms)- usually two on board the Training Ship and one on a commercial vessel. ( SUNY Maritime only requires you to go on cruise if you are pursuing your license- Mass Maritime requires all Cadets- License porgram or not, to complete at least one Sea Term on board the training ship regardless of license track or not.) Going on your Training Cruise is really a unique opportunity compared to what your peers will be experiencing in college. The Empire State (Ft Schuyler's Training Ship) travels throughout Europe each summer- in recent years port of call have included include the Azores, Gibraltar, Greece, England, Ireland,Hamburg, Copenhagen, Iceland etc...). Mass Maritime has a winter Sea Term and travels throuught the Caribbean, and South Amercia and Cal Maritime will head west to Pacific ports.

NY Maritime hosts a Navy ROTC unit and you can cross town with the Army at Fordham in the Bronx. Mass Maritime has a Cross Town Army ROTC program with an instructor on Campus and you can commission in the Navy thru the Strategic Sealift Program (formerly called the Merchant Marine Reserve Program) http://www.maritime.edu/index.cfm?pg=503. Both schools offer reduced "regional" tuition rates for residents of states that have agreements with New York or Massachusetts - these are pretty close to in state tuition rates so they are pretty affordable schools for many- this is also the case for the other state Maritimes I believe- I know it is for California and believe similar programs are in place in Maine and Texas.

As Marist has indicated- if you are interested in going to school in a military college environement and also are interested in a really solid and unique maritime education- You really should take a look at the State Maritime Academies - which include NY and Mass, along with Maine (Castine) , Texas (Galveston) and California (Vallejo)
