Admissions update on Facebook

"As of today, we have 609 candidates who have accepted appointments to join the Class of 2018. There are 317 who are currently still in the "offered" status. Candidates may want to contact their regional commander for a status update."

Posted on the WP Admissions Facebook page about 1/2 hr ago.
 
Haha ca2, you just beat me to that! I was just about to copy and paste. Unfortunately, they don't say how many more offers will go out.
 
So...926 (609+317) offers so far...and we've seen the number of about 1350 being the total numbers of offers that are needed given a certain historical number of declines to make a full class of about 1200. That leaves about 375-400 offers still to go out.

Unfortunately that conflicts with other seemingly reliable info found here...

Oh well, the mailman stalking and the tea-leaf reading continues...

The previous FB update on 27Feb had 531 accepted and 353 outstanding for a total of 884 selections. The new number has 609 accepted and 317 outstanding for a total of 926... by my math this is 42 appointments sent in the last 10 days, it could be May before they fill the class...

I don't think the USMAPS offers are included in the 926 since USMAPS offers go out in late April, correct? So, of your hypothetical 375-400 remaining to go out, it's really more like 200-250, depending on if some candidates with offers have offers to other academies or just flat out turn it down.

It's interesting that the previous Facebook update was on Feb 27th and there were 884 offers extended at that time (531 accepted+353 outstanding). If I understand their posts correctly, that means only 42 offers went out in about a week's time.

Sledge, You are right about the 200 USMAPS appointments. We have a son at USMAPS right now who should be one of those 200 and we have a daughter who hopes to be among the other number.

By the way, there are (according to my son) about 226 prepsters there now, some of whom (about 20) have a very slim chance of making the cut to go "down the hill" to WP. I suppose it is possible that all 226 could go on to WP or there could be fewer than the usual of about 200. Either way, our DS says that they will not hear their fate either way until late April or May.
 
I had read somewhere that, historically, about 20 or so of each USMAPS class did not receive offers to USMA, so that makes sense.

I guess the flip side of the USMAPS offers not being extended yet, and therefore not counted in the offers that are really remaining, is that 200+ candidates are going to be offered USMAPS for 2014-2015. I haven't seen anybody here post that they were offered USMAPS for the coming year.
 
Our son was Prior Service and was informed right around this time last year. I'd expect those offers are coming soon or already underway, but our experience is only as a prior service, not as a Under Represented Minority or an Athlete. Those three groups seem to make up the bulk of the USMAPS student body.


So while there may not be 400 offers for WP there are still going to be 200 offers to WP and 250 offers for USMAPS. Prep School is a great start and anyone offered should take advantage of the opportunity. Our son was offered both USMAPS and a direct appointment to WP and he chose USMAPS and feels that he made a good decision.

WP Admissions posted on 2/21 on FB the following re. USMAPS: "most will receive their appointments in April through early May." I thought I had seen at least one person with an offer here, but he must have been for NAPS instead.
 
I was at a Founder's Day dinner on Friday, March 7 in Knoxville. The guest speaker was Colonel Debra McDonald, the Director of Admissions at West Point. She said that they had made around 1,000 offers and only had 27 (I think) people decline. This is an unusually high rate of acceptance. She said they are looking to get around 200 more for the class of 2018. Didn't say where they would come from, though.

I know of 1 USMAP at MMI that has received appointment, they may be included in the whole number of appointments sent to date, or not...

MMI is one of the civil prep/AOG scholarship schools. It is different than the formal USMAPS program.

All of the civil prep cadets at MMI got appointments. (I believe 25 cadets)
