Class of 2018 Female, happy to answer questions

If your appointee booklet doesn't say anything, you're probably good to go with gray and black. Most of my friends and I went with plain black, but it really doesn't matter too much.

Hi Red,

Is there anything handy you'd advise to bring for BCT? For example, I've been told to buy moleskin for blisters..but I have no idea any thing else that might be useful tip.

Hi #17,

You will get blisters moleskin or not. They do blister care though so don't be too worried.

For girls bring all the hair products and things you will want to use to do your hair. Clips, bobby pins, hair ties, hairspray. Don't expect to have lots of time to do your hair though so practice making a bun that you can do fast and efficiently. I really needed hair gel. I know its gross, and your hair will be disgusting, but it is the fastest most efficient way to avoid fly-aways. Also bring feminine products that your comfortable with, just in case.

Spandex (compression shorts) are great. We got issued a pair or two, but you will probably want better fitting ones and more of them. They just make life a bit easier, and comfortable. You get issued black. I also brought some white ones. But no one will check. Just keep it neutral.

You may want chaffing cream, especially for Jack's, though the spandex may be good enough for you.

Your showers will be short, so buying a 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 so help get you as clean as possible.

Bring underwear you will be willing to throw away. They get really disgusting.

I can't think of anything else. If I do I'll make another post. But you will have plenty of opportunities to visit the C-Store, so if you forget something smaller, the C-store will probably have what you need, or something that will work. So just be sure you have some cash with you. I think I brought $150 and had way more than I needed. The big items were an iron, mini-vacuum, and ironing board. Other than that just some cleaning supplies and cough drops were part of my purchases.

Hope this helps.

My DD coordinated with her roommate on the iron, ironing board, mini-vac, etc. You'll only need one for each room.
My DH said he never used an ironing board -- the bed worked fine.

Hi I recently did the questionnaire for the class of 2020 application and I was deemed not competitive. Did you have any experience with this?

Yup. I had a really low score on one section of the SAT when I filled out my initial application stuff. Try and get whatever section/s up if that's what you think it could be. If you fix whatever they don't like you definitely can still get here and succeed.

So were you like uncompetitive at first and they changed it after you redid your tests?

I had a question regarding ap tests and if the academy's accepted them or not? I heard it is still beneficial to take them , however you might have to retake the class in an academy still.

Runner Girl,

Take the tests. I validated a lot more than I expected. Most 5's get you credit. Some 4's might. And so it can't hurt you.

Hope this helps.

So in the packet it says to bring white underwear and sports bras? Can we bring black too?

Any advice for the CFA??

Smith,

Train, try to get above the averages on everything. Practice doing push-ups and time yourself, doing multiple sets is always a good idea. Work on pull-ups, negatives, elastic bands, assisted pull-up machine. Same goes for sit-ups. The basketball throw is weird, but practice and do your best. And do a couple dry-runs of all the events back-to-back so that you are used to running the mile when you're tired. There aren't really tricks, it's just reps and doing them consistently and often.

Hope this helps.

Wisco Girl,

Yes, black is fine. They won't check, but you probably should have a few white pairs.

Bring white & something you will plan to throw away after BCT. You should get in the habit of following directions/orders as soon as possible

There's actually a reason they say to bring white -- they literally boil your underwear. You throw black into the mix & you end up making the white underwear look even grosser than it normally would after being boiled multiple times.

One of the first things the girls do after BCT is go online and buy lacy/girlie underwear.

There are separate washes for lights and darks, but still. I think I couldn't find enough white sports bras that I liked so I brought two black ones too. But definitely expect to toss your basic underwear. It's nasty.

I know there is a packing list for BCT and what to bring and not bring, however some other appointees and I were wondering if hygiene items such as nail clippers and tweezers would be allowed?
