Class of 2019 Appointment Thread

Thank you, Eagle9515! And no not yet. My Commander let me know about my acceptance and he sent me the email that he received form the Academy. He has to reply back and then my portal will get updated.

Is there any other way Airman can find out there status? My commander hasn't said anything yet and I havnt had any portal updates. Time is winding down and I'm getting pretty nervous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I received my appointment though LEAD yesterday. My ALO told me that THIS week is the week that Airmen should get their appointment. After this week, I believe they'll start giving out the rest of the prep school appointments. I knew some preppies who didn't get an an offer to Prep school until May.

Best of luck!

Thank you very much for posting this. Capt. Yellin is truly a great American hero. I was inspired by his words, and I am honored to have the opportunity to follow in his footsteps one day.

The Class of 2018 chose Louis Zamperini, honored in the recent movie, Unbroken, as their Exemplar. Zamperini passed away one week to the day after the beginning of BCT for the Class of 2018. These guys are heroes. They must be honored before they pass. Congratulations on your appointment Yonder. Make us all proud.

While the exemplar is not technically limited to heroes who have passed, it is very unlikely that someone who is still alive will be chosen as an exemplar. Captain Yellin is an extraordinary hero, but it is an unwritten rule that an exemplar is deceased at the time they are chosen. Cadets do not necessarily have the final say (exemplar must be reviewed/approved by the History Dept. as well as others, I believe).

The 4 degree class puts together an exemplar committee who narrows it down to a few choices. These choices are then reviewed by the History Dept. and whoever else has a say (the AOG, maybe? Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I can't quite remember). After they have their final candidates, the class as a whole votes on who they want as their exemplar.
