Hi everybody,

I have been a long time lurker on these forums; never actually created an account until now. I received some good news today and I thought I would share it with this wonderful community! I received a call from my Congressman that I have been offered an appointment at USAFA. Words cannot describe my feelings right now. I decided to create an account to not only to share this news with you, but also perhaps give some words of encouragement. I first applied to USAFA while in high school- unfortunately I did not get in. I decided to keep working at my part-time job and go to community college and reapply. I know how it feels to wait for that portal to update. I know the feeling of checking it multiple times a-day knowing it only updates in the morning. I know the feeling of not seeing an update and March has come and gone. It sucks. People say good things come to those who wait. I disagree. Good things come to those who are willing to put in the work until the goal is achieved. Never give in. Never give up. If you truly want to attend USAFA and become an officer in the USAF; you can do it... if you are willing to put in the work. I've waited two years to say this:

Matt, I loved your post! What exciting news and particularly for you, who has worked so very hard and for such a long time to obtain your goal.
I remember the excitement and tears, when my son received his appointment on March 2, 2012; and it was a day that all of us will never forget.
I applaud each and every one of you that has achieved this appointment, and pray for all of you to work hard and keep your eye focused on the prize...in four more years....everyone will be applauding you as you receive your diploma and your rank as Second Lieutenants. I cannot believe that my son will be graduating on June 2, 2016. It seems like yesterday that we were rejoicing with him about his appointment to USAFA... CONGRATS!!!

You story sounds just like my older son. He was waitlisted at CGA the first time around, but did the CC route and reapplied and was accepted. He's now an Ensign and loving his first billet!

Congrats on your long journey! I am sure you will do well at the Academy and in your career as an officer.

Reading it is awesome because I am in that position that you described, checking the forum multiple times per day, knowing nothing has changed, and it's great to know there are others out there who went through/are going through the same thing. For now, though, working on backups and heading to AFROTC interview in an hour!

I applied through the LEAD program and received my appointment to the Air Force Academy this morning. I enlisted in the Air Force with the knowledge that this is what I wanted to pursue and it's awesome that I'm finally on my path to receiving a commission in the world's greatest Air Force!

I'm glad you enjoyed my post, and thank you for your kind words! There are many people in your shoes, don't feel alone! I wish I could take all the credit for not giving up on my dream, but that isn't so. I guess you could say that I come from a family that doesn't get in on their first try (excluding my dad, he's the only one to get into USAFA on his first try); It took my mom three tries to get into USAFA! It took my brother (he's in his second year there) two tries to get in same as me! Knowing that my mom had the endurance to apply three years in a row and seeing my brother have to reapply when I thought he would get in for sure played a big part in me reapplying. It just goes to show- if you want something badly enough, the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Best of luck to you baileydb! I pray that all works out for you!

Thanks so much! Ironically, I just gave a speech in one of my classes about a man I had the opportunity to meet that applied three times to finally get accepted to USAFA; the theme was never give up! You and your family also exemplify that virtue of persistence. Again, congrats! Hopefully I get to be your classmate

Knowing that my mom had the endurance to apply three years in a row and seeing my brother have to reapply when I thought he would get in for sure played a big part in me reapplying. It just goes to show- if you want something badly enough, the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Best of luck to you baileydb! I pray that all works out for you!

Thanks so much! Ironically, I just gave a speech in one of my classes about a man I had the opportunity to meet that applied three times to finally get accepted to USAFA; the theme was never give up! You and your family also exemplify that virtue of persistence. Again, congrats! Hopefully I get to be your classmate

I applied through LEAD as well (shoutout to my fellow airman applicants!) and received my direct appointment to the Air Force Academy today! I enlisted with the intention to apply to USAFA and my childhood dream has finally come true. Best of luck to all of those still waiting to hear. See y'all 25 Jun 15!
