Class of 2020 Boots

For the Class of 2019, we were allowed to bring and wear our own boots if we wanted to. I know of people who wore Nikes for all of Basic. I would not bother bring your own because they will be super dirty and gross after Basic. The Nikes that were worn in Basic were generally pretty beat up at the end. Also, you probably won't be rucking in Basic at all. Just marching and running.

I found this to be flight dependent. In my flight, only priors were allowed to have their own boots.

Our DS has had both Nike's and Rocky's. He really likes his Rocky's..............Like others have said, the boots get really used during the second half BCT. He threw away the pair he wore to Jack's as we had brought out a new pair to A-Day. I have asked him if he wished he brought a pair with him to BCT and he said "no". The issued boots were fine plus it was one less thing to carry around on I-Day and get called out about.

His biggest advice is don't leave to boot fitting area when being issued boots until you are confident they fit correctly. There is a lot of pressure to keep moving, but make sure they fit. Boots run a different size than tennis shoes so have an idea of what size you are before getting there. It is up to your Basic Cadet to make sure they fit properly.

Most cadets here have Nike's or Rocky's for the school year because they are lightweight. And yes, the Class of 2019 was the first class to be allowed to wear them during basic. However, just a warning that if you bring them and if they are allowed, know that the cadre will notice that you have them on..

Also there's no guarantee that your squadron will allow basics to have no issue boots through BCT (or beyond). My DD was glad she didn't bring boots because the basic boots, though heavier, are comfortable.

Alyssia has a very good point as well. You really don't want to be "noticed" - unless you're ok with that kind of thing. :)
