@MABlue Congrats! Thats awesome! where are you from/ what are your qualifications?? im thinking my academics are the only things holding me back- 3.7gpa 27act and only top 30% of class... After that i think i excel in most other fields

@SoccerFlyer I submitted my app Jan 11th, Nomination received Jan 19th, appointment Jan 22. So not everyone who heard back submitted in late summer/early fall...
Interesting - so you had your medical complete, interview, all academic requirements (including teacher reqs), CFA, and nom interview all completed between Jan 11th and Jan 22nd?

Personal Data Record was submitted Dec.17. Official Transcripts uploaded to portal on Jan 9th. CFA and Teacher Recs submitted on Jan 5(CFA), Jan 10(English), Jan 11(Math). BGO Interview was also submitted Jan.11th(although the actual interview was in November). Nom Interview was in December, but nomination was only uploaded to the portal on 1/19. Notified of Medical Qualification Jan 18th(Online, letter still hasn't reached me). Only thing that was submitted early was SAT Scores(September). Application was only deemed "Complete Pending Review" on Jan 11th, with the actions of obtain a nomination, and complete medical qualification exam still remaining.

Makes sense. You were in the pipeline long before Jan 11. Congrats to you and good luck at USNA.

@SoccerFlyer here are some of my basic qualifications.
State: Massachusetts
Class rank: School officially doesnt rank, but my GPA would put my class rank at around 45%(competitive NE boarding school)
SAT CR+M: 1500 (760M 740CR)
AP's: Calc BC, Physics C

Hopeful, you forgot the rest of the appointments. There were 22 listed before yours. Please copy and paste the entire list adding yours at the bottom. I would fix it, but hard to do on my phone.:)

Not possible. Nice try and did I say not possible. You don't just send in application and get appointment the following week. A lot more to it than just application. DODMERB takes longer than that just to schedule let alone complete. Nomination interviews are scheduled in November/December at the latest. Congratulations on your appointment but no need to exaggerate to make everyone that is still waiting feel like crap.

From what I read, think MABlue started his USNA application early & BGO interview Nov. but finished up everything later? Just trying to clear things up?

That would make sense but his last reply, that I was responding too, stated that he didn't even submit application until Jan 11th and received appt 10 days later. This is not a true statement or even possible. No reason for him to exaggerate to make others feel bad. That was all I was trying to say. No worries

For what it's worth, I do appreciate Jtjr1972 clarifying these comments. My DS has had his app completed since July/Aug and only had to wait on Nominations, DODMERB, and CFT done at NASS. Still " complete pending review" since then. No LOA. Not a recruited athelete although his football team just won State. He started on both sides of the ball. NAVY coach supposed to be visiting soon at which point his HS coach will talk him up and show his highlight reel. Maybe he'll end up walking on. Who knows but not relying on that. That being said, I realize nerves are frayed at this point, and emotions are running high. I get that. But I think this forum needs to be a safe, non-confrontational place to exchange information without criticizing others. For some, the process has been easy, I venture to say for most, like us, the wait is agonizing. I'm a Christian and I don't mind quoting, Romans 5:3-4... And we know Suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character hope. I'd like to think we can all remain hopeful but when it's all said and done it is in God's hands. I will get off my soap box now

I did not hint any exaggeration whatsoever.

I finished a majority of my teacher recs relatively quickly (I let them know in advance that these recs would be coming to them, so they had time to formulate something for me)

The only thing that I did not get finished relatively early was the medical - I finished the medical exam early but it wasn't until weeks later that it was uploaded.

With a little communication and coordination, the only part of the application that actually took a long time to get complete was the nomination and waiting for my first semester college transcripts. Everything else aside from these two things and the medical took were completed pretty quick.

To assume that MAblue statements were only made for ill intent and malice is unfair, and honestly a bit petty on your part in my opinion.

Hopefully I didn't miss anyone - half asleep as I update this.

In all honesty, I was NOT trying to exaggerate or make anyone feel bad. When I said "submitted Jan 11th" all I meant was that the application status went from "Incomplete" to "Complete Pending Review" on Jan 11th.

I think most understand your initial comments were not malicious or braggadocios. The bottom line is you're going to be a midshipman and serve this great country with pride. IMHO you're a patriot and we need more like this in this time of our lives. I hope to serve side-by-side with you, congrats!

One of the reasons the process can be a bear is that, even if you, as my son did, took care of every step with tremendous diligence and timeliness, so much of the "completion" for each requirement depends on others; be that teachers, ACT/SAT, doctors, or the Academy itself. And when others are slow it can drive a contentious person nuts.

My sons application has been complete for a very long time, and his application is good. Has a nom, good recs, seven varsity letters in baseball and soccer, team captain in each, good class standing, ACT scores of m34, e31, s34, r30, NHS Pres, job throughout HS, and a great BGO rec. He has an appointment to USMA, but not even an LOE from USNA. So he waits. Lol.

It is tough on parents too. Actually, my son now leaning towards WP, but his mind changes on that. WP has always been more in contact and encouraging than USNA, which really has had no contact with my son. Both schools are beyond tremendous, and each service offers so many things which my son is drawn to. Hope the waiting ends soon so he can make a decision.

Wildcatmom, well said and the biblical quote so fitting here! Just last night DS and I were talking that there is nothing else he can do it's in God's and the Academy's hands.

It's been said numerous times, the majority of the appointments won't start rolling out for a while. Congrats to those who have theirs. Granted not every candidate is on this forum but when you look at the number of appointments vs the anticipated class size, there is still along way to go!

I think part of the nerves is hearing others already having heard, seeing that "completed pending review" FOREVER! One way my DS has dealt with it is by not checking his portal too frequently. He checked each time something was done to verify and this week before the door slams shut but other than that he has resisted. (Much stronger willed than his Momma!).

Another hard part for some candidates is reading stats of candidates who have appointments and seeing scores, GPA, CFA results lower than theirs and wondering why do they already have an appointment and I don't? My DS is spared this because he isn't on here. Remember there is so much we can't see...those teacher recs, that BGO rec, ranked slate vs competitive slate...things we'll never get to know. No way to understand the puzzle. We've seen locally 2 kids in the same class competing for an appointment. It wasn't the one who looks better on paper that got in shocking everyone. Why? We'll never know! Both kids are doing great all these years later.

Each time I get anxious waiting (and I do) I just look at my DS. He's an incredible kid! He's worked hard in school, he presents a great package, he's got solid plan B, C, D. His future is bright no matter where he lands! So for now, like most, we sit and wait! And at this house pray.

Good luck all!

USNA does not issue LOEs or 3Q letters. If memory serves me right neither does USAFA. I understand the draw of feeling wanted by a SAot any school. Families across the country are trying to get 17-18 year old kids to be patient and wait to see all their options. Sounds like great stats and fingers crossed he gets an appointment. Hopefully once an appointment arrives from USNA he can take a step back and really make a great assessment of his options and what service and school fits him best.

And for the kids lurking or posting on this forum, hang in there. It's February around the corner. The wait is almost over. I know reading on this forum it's hard to see everyone posting their appointments. It can sometimes feel like everyone has gotten an appointment and there aren't any left. Not the truth... The majority of appointments are just now rolling out. If trends hold true, the appointment lists end up with around 10% of a class posting. Even now there are only 30ish and its growing everyday with candidates who are waiting just like you. Focus on your back up plans, working out and having fun. The number 1 regret we hear every year of Plebes is they stressed too much and didn't spend enough time with family and friends. Go have fun!

Another hard part for some candidates is reading stats of candidates who have appointments and seeing scores, GPA, CFA results lower than theirs and wondering why do they already have an appointment and I don't?

This is why I do not encourage posting stats....because it is absolutely useless to any other candidate for "chances" of an appointment. To me, it only encourages what you said in the above quote. I also caution those who post about their appointments....there is a reason why there is ONE thread dedicated to posting appointments! On your own will, you don't need to post it on multiple threads or post that you or your DS/DD has been accepted to multiple SAs....it might rub off in all the wrong ways...and remember that perception IS REALITY! Furthermore, I am not sure why one would post that they or DS/DD has been accepted to multiple SAs, other than recognition; if others want to correlate the different appointment threads and make a remark that someone has been accepted to multiple SAs, that is one thing. Remember, military service is putting others before you...being humble. Appointees SHOULD feel PROUD since it is an arduous process and achievement, but that "proudness" should be channeled into this one thread and among family/friends. My two cents.
