Class of 2020 USNA Appointment Thread

"Class of 2019, USNA offered 1,373 appointments and 1,191 accepted & enrolled:) heard maybe about 950 so graduates?
Blessedmom, 25 minutes ago Report"

The last 4 USNA Commissioning numbers were 100+ higher:
2012: 1099
2013: 1047
2014: 1068
2015: 1070

All started just under 1200 I believe.
Go Navy!

I look at it this way, the closest we parents/applicants will get to knowing the actual numbers of USNA Appointments accepted or to be able to 'feel' to how they offer out Appointments will be learned right here, watching this 2020 Appointment thread.

Looking back to last year's 2019 Appointment thread, this USNA Forum saw about 85 new Plebes/Family members post the good news that they had gotten "the call" . This is roughly 6.1% of the Class of 2019 that reported in, right here! Hey, that's not too bad~!

We are about 1/3 the way complete in the listing of the 2020 Class entrance status. The bulk of the 2020 list has two more months to go to get the other approx. 2/3 of the list to report ;> Stay tuned....

murfthesurf points out exactly what we keep saying. Many appointments still to come. The last few years there has been right around 100 or so candidates post their appointments. We are at 30+ right now. If the trends hold true to the last few years, many to go. I know it can seem overwhelming on here that so many have gotten LOAs and appointments, but this thread is a perfect example of the reality of where things sit right now. Deep breathes and go enjoy your last few months at home! Seriously May/June will be here before you know and you wonder why you didn't hang out with your friends and family more!

Navy dad what nom is your DS appointment linked to? (Mccain, flake, or salmon?)
Thanks

There is no way to know which appointment a candidate is linked too. DS had an LOA and received a nomination from Salmon and McCain (Flake will not give a nomination to someone who has one from another source). He could be linked with someone altogether differently and we would never know.

@usnagrad1988 There are no FL appointments reported on here yet, however there are a couple of FL Appointments on the "USNA Class of 2020" Facebook Page. Although as has previously been stated, just because you are from a certain state, does not mean the appointment will be charged to that state.

We will never know the maximum number of appointments that is charged to each state during selection, right? Some may be under and some may be over the max. The goal is to fill the slots available for each school year.

Hey, Navy_Candidate_2015, did that ISR ever materialize? (not that you need it, now !)

My son was told he was awarded an ISR, I went with him to sign the ISR consent form, yet no paperwork was sent to him.

Around that time back in November, he began to get recruited by a USNA team. Contact with USNA is weekly, now saying to him "hang in there".

Son did make the Team aware he had been told he had ISR. I just can't help thinking that there may be a connected reason his ISR hasn't been sent?

His Admissions portal does state that NROTC and USNA admissions share information.

I may be thinking too much............

I came across article 2010, written by Bruce Fleming, English prof USNA (past prof.?) Anyway, he was very negative about the SA producing top leaders? Too many couldn't write simple essays & passed classes with 4 yrs tutors & repeated classes until they passed? Spoke about excusing athletes' conducts etc... I agree with one thing he wrote: maybe SA should be a D3 school & recruit top candidate with tax payers money not mediocre with top athletic skills??

Blessed mom...this topic has been addressed several times. I recommend searching this forum for Bruce Fleming and you will see quite a few posts for it. This isn't the appropriate thread for this and we are beating a dead horse on this issue, that likely won't change opinions.

Oh my apologies, a friend forwarded the article to me...just thought it was interesting....tried to remove my post but unable:(

I just want to clarify that you will not be slated to any MOC from another state. You may, however be slated to the VP, Superintendent, or Presidential or other sources if you are eligible and applied for them. By law, nominations do not cross state lines.

No worries blessedmom...just the discussion you are interested in has already been widely debated on these forums.

I have to agree with usnabgo08.

Change is the only certainty in life. Anyone can complain loudly or have an arm chair opinion about changing a System. In the meantime, the System charged with producing this Nation's future military leaders stops for no one; there are too many politicians out there making messes that require the Military to 'clean up after the Parade'... yet to guys like Fleming, the System must change with a snap of the finger?

Remember this Commercial, from years ago?

Making any Change in a Process at any Academy is done while the critical moving parts of each Academy are 'traveling at full speed' What is critical in making a change is to always keep the mission of the Academies at the forefront while asking this question: How will the wrong execution of a 'change' effect the 'quality' of the future Leaders who later are ordering someone to their death when carrying out a mission?

MHO, You had better understand all of the What, Why and Hows when futzing with a Machine operating at full speed!

You had better Implement very, very carefully, less the Law of Unintended Consequences rise up out of the sea like Godzilla to ruin everyone's day.

.........and now back to our regularly scheduled programming....
