Class of 2020 USNA Appointment Thread

Well technically he is correct. NAPS and foundation kids still haven't gotten theirs, so there are technically couple 100 to go. History tells us there are still appointments to hand out for non-NAPS and foundation kids also if you look at posts from years past.
 
The only thing I am sure of after following these threads for 4-5 months is that nobody knows. Nobody. Not the moderators. Not the parents. Not the applicants. Only the inner circle in admissions knows and they're not talking. The good news is that it will be over soon and 4 years from now you will look back and say "I'm glad it worked out that way." Whatever that may be.
 
^ so true. As a reapplicant, I can confirm that if you over analyze every little part of the admissions process, you will drive yourself crazy. Sure, there are patterns, but it really comes down to the Admissions office. It is tempting to try and work the system, but I assure you, things will work out, even if it's not in the way you might think.
 
Ktnatalk...I have a candidate who didn't finish the application in time and still hasn't received a TWE...so that isn't true. Thus to say, they were not triple qualified. But I'd agree that they should have received a TWE by now. However, if this candidate didn't receive a TWE at this point...makes me wonder if there are candidates out there who have not received one and are not board qualified.

That is interesting. Does admissions think if a candidate does not care enough or not able to finish the application by 31 Jan, there is no need to inform her/him that s/he is not 3Q?

I still believe those completed their application should have been notified if they are not 3Q by now. It shouldn't be the first priority after 31 Jan, but at a certain point after admissiond reviewed the application.

Were the transcripts/grade, medical and CFA all completed and submitted by this candidate?
 
Unless something has changed (which I have not been made aware of), everyone who starts an application will get some type of notification (appointment, LOA, TWE). Since my candidate didn't have a TWE sent yet...it kind of makes me wonder...
 
hmm so it means that my DS is still in the running because he is a competitive candidate or his application was not completed ... I sure hope it is the former. :)

Well in addition, it could mean they are still being considered for NAPS/Foundation (I believe there was a NAPS/Foundation waiting list in the past), too. I guess the bottom line is don't make any assumptions!
 
The Portal for my DS states Congratulations! Your application is COMPLETE PENDING REVIEW..and it is sitting in CPR. He had everything including the medical and fitness, completed by Nov 2015. Will each Congressman in their individual districts have at least 1 candidate that does get an appointment or NAPS? I'm learning a lot reading the forum, but this is all new to us. My son wants a military career. The waiting is tough.
 
In general, USNA tries to appoint a qualified candidate from each of the MOC's slate(s). However, on occasion, if there are no fully qualified candidates...then no appointments will be charged to the MOC. NAPS is a separate beast and does not have any connection to nominations...so it is more likely a Congressman may have no NAPS selectees (i.e. one district could have 2 NAPSters and another 0).

Thank You. I appreciate the reply. I believe my son has the qualifications since he is still in the running. Feeling hopeful. I know USNA is a perfect fit for him. Hoping they will feel the same.

I offer the following article to only reinforce the above point. It's written by a former admissions official from Yale. The end result is that if you're looking for insight into the logical, scientific method for how highly selective schools dole out admissions spots, yeah... no. You're more likely to find the Yeti and Big Foot having lunch in the Bermuda Triangle.

So when metrics alone aren't enough to make a decision, there's going to be an awful lot of (inexplicable, frustrating, impenetrable) art to go along with the science.

Personal side note: DS and I had an interview of the NROTC Commanding Officer for MIT/Harvard/Tufts and asked him point blank how much a NROTC scholarship helps with the admissions process to these schools (DS had one in hand). Response: "We could triple the size of the incoming class at any of these schools and still have perfect GPAs and SAT scores." So, not much, apparently.
