Class of 2020 USNA Appointment Thread

Does the " bubble wrap" situation also apply to 4 year NROTC scholarships? Trying to decide which plan B school to put a deposit down on? Hate to mislead the 1st choice scholarship school as the CO there has really been actively pursuing DS...even going so far as to admit they had turned down NROTC scholarship applicants who had been admitted to Harvard, Yale, etc! Don't feel right about misleading him as he is aware of DS's appointment. DS got into our state university Honors Program which was also very competitive but they were not on the NROTC list b/c they only had AROTC. He is accepted to 3 of the remaining 4 NROTC schools but scholarship currently placed at the #1. Not really sure what the correct backup plan should be!

Deposit was not refunded but we weren't expecting it to be either.

It was the NROTC CO at my mids Plan B school who suggested we accept the scholarship and put down a deposit on the school. This was after my mid told him he decided to accept appointment to USNA.

The counselor there said, "we're going to get one of you in here." She ended up graduating from FU. I visited NAPS with my son last year while on a New England vacation. New building. They were tearing down Nimitz Hall due to asbestos, ha! That was one of my favorite years, after the summer training. A blast playing football, lots of time off (more than a 1/C at USNA) and great friendships that carried over to Annapolis. It's like you're the underdog and all Napsters band together to this day :)

My son has enjoyed his year at Furman. But the Naval Academy has been his dream since 8th grade. A year at NAPS and the thought of being a plebe at 21 won't deter him!

A little coincidental to get the LoA on 9/11 and the Nom on Pearl Harbor day.

The county where he has gone to school his whole life is named for Captain James Lawrence who uttered the phrase "Don't give up the Ship!"

We hope these signs are good ones and not signs of disaster on the horizon.
