Class of 2021 USNA Appointment Thread

Remember well... Admission to DisneyWorld came with a book of tickets, different levels (A-E) for different rides. The book had alot more lower level tickets (for things like Small World/Mr Toads Ride) than E tickets...just a handful of those, so you save them for the big rides (Space Mountain) . I still remember Mom and Dad having to manage the tickets for 4 kids -- it had to be a nightmare!

Nice digression.. looking forward to seeing how JM45's story turns out. This is a new one, and hate to speculate about what goes on inside Admissions. We will never know the full story, but likely the result of a combination of nominations slate, conditional offers, and a disqualifying medical condition. Just goes to show, anything can happen.

I have been following this valuable thread for awhile, but this is my first post! Our DS received a LOA in March, but his medical waiver was denied yesterday (IL-18). We are devastated but know that he will be successful once he determines what he is going to do. Congratulations on your Appointments and good luck during Plebe summer!

I believe USNavy1988 has provided a piece of the puzzle.

Heart goes out to you and DS, USNavy1988. To make it this far and be turned away is extremely gut wrenching.

I think instead of a piece of puzzle, it is the whole picture.

Sorry to hear about what your DS and you went through. Best of luck to his future endeavors!

This is gut-wrenching. As an IL-18 who just received news of "renewed hope" when DS's file was re-opened, it is bittersweet, to say the very least. I would much rather have heard that a slot opened because someone decided to accept a different Academy appointment. My DS is a re-applicant, so we can certainly imagine somewhat the feelings you and your family are experiencing now. If I have learned anything from viewing this forum it is that these young men and women cannot help but succeed! They are all "the best of the best" and every future is bright! I have no doubt this applies to your DS! Whatever he decides to do, he will be a champion!

JM, please refrain from feeling this way. Admissions is just doing their job by filling the class with qualified candidates. While you can't undo reading how your DS is receiving a second chance, your DS truly understands how competitive it is and someone is going to get it and some won't because it is a numbers game. I'd recommend using it to motivate DS, especially when the going get tough during Plebe Summer and Plebe Year.

Oh, make no mistake...there is no lack of excitement nor motivation! We don't know what will come of this, but we know full well the feelings of disappointment, and wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Wow! I cannot believe I am posting this. After 2 years, a crazy roller coaster ride, multiple rejections, but a "boatload" of sheer grit and resolve, I can actually announce...
