Class of 2022 - Commissioning is Friday May 27, 2022

One thing really threw me for a loop. Have you ever seen an inflatable couch?
I have!
.
Never seen an inflatable couch …. But I have witnessed many couches “On Fire” whenever I would drive to sporting events in West Virginia.

Over the years, when we would drive from Northern Virginia to Highpoint Raceway outside Morgantown WV for long weekends of Motocross and Camping … it was a tradition to burn the “Old Couch” you brung with you on the Saturday or Sunday after all the racing is done …. It used to be a West Virginia tradition at all sporting events until it was banned.

Can’t have any fun anymore …

Congrats, by the way, to all the 22s and their families. Looked like the weather stayed away during the event.
Until almost the end. Then it was cut short, stadium evacuated, and the skies parted. Soaked SOAKED people everywhere…BUT they graduated and commissioned despite. Just no kids allowed on the field for the hat collection, and no post event photo ops of changing of new shoulder board, and first salutes. Those will happen later at the Airbnb!

Guess what? NONE of that even matters. It was magical.

BTW…per the Supe, 2022 has the record for highest graduation rate.

Fantastic day. Congrats to all!!

Considering all they went through with Covid that’s impressive.
Congrats to you my friend I am so happy it was magical. Congrats to your ensign.

Of course -- despite best laid plans and doing this every year -- no graduation is ever the same. 2022 will be talking about this at Reunions forever!

People and uniforms dry, but what about the diplomas ? How many former Boy Scouts came prepared with plastic bags to keep that precious piece of paper dry ?

Did they get them?
There was a message on live stream they'd be available in 30 minutes at assigned tents, just before message on loudspeaker to flee.
Hoping they were still dry. The album maybe not.

They had contingency plans for this. The diploma was received, and then handed back at the end of the ramp. And all were taken up to a blue and gold tent. Where they were bagged. And the plan was for them to go directly to the tent to retrieve them again. And it was a smooth process. Other than the lack of opportunities for pictures.

Yes. The one handed to them from POTUS was a fake. They received their actual diplomas and commissioning certificates in the tent after we were told to seek shelter.

As we bopped around today, with mostly clear skies and temps in the 70s, we collectively said, “Thank goodness it wasn’t like this yesterday.” Had it been, the mids and crowd would’ve roasted. DS, in his industrial-strength ROTC cadet uniform to render DD’s first salute, would’ve been a puddle of sweat before noon. Save photos on the field and the chance for little ones to gather covers, all’s well that ends well.

Honestly, ALL WEEK, the skies parted at the most important times. No complaints at all!! And will take the cooler, cloudy skies, and even forgo the Blue Angels flyover, for the weather we had. Magical.

Speaking of POTUS... He received an appointment in '65?
He received a nomination.

Head to the stickies at the nomination forum for further explanation. It’s one of the necessary pieces of an appointment.

😂😂😂 JK @brewmeist!!

Good speech by President Biden. Worth a listen online. He did a good job I enjoyed it, and it was well received 👏 👏!!

Old Joe had a lot to reminisce about …. He was having the time of his life. Good to see him having some fun.

Buck had to go after Joe when he headed down the ramp near the end of the ceremony to converse with the Rugby gal …. I think he really wanted to hang out with the class of ‘22 a lot longer.

He gave a really good speech no matter what your political views are. I am so proud to be an American.

Probably to get him to evacuate 🤣 It was a little startling to hear that over the loud speaker. And to see the darkness arriving. It was also being broadcast on the yard. Exciting and memorable!
