Last week on the Thursday before Spring Break per tradition, the USCGA graduating class of 2022 learned of their first assignments as an Ensign after graduation in May. Here are a few highlights:
Disclaimer: Below are estimates based on my counting while watching the ceremony, numbers may vary.
Flight School = 20 cadets (all majors sent at least one to flight school).
Prevention Billets = 5 cadets (Land based)
Cyber HQ Billets = 4 cadets ( Cyber majors, Management major, Ops Research major)
Cyber assigned to Sectors = 3 cadets ( Cyber major, Management major)
Cutters (aka Afloat) 215 cadets = either as a Deck Watch Officer about 166 cadets; or Student Engineer approximately 49 cadets.
The take away for those of you considering applying to USCGA is that it is a SEA service and the vast majority of you will go to a Cutter after graduation and beyond.
It is interesting to see the growth of cyber billets both at HQ and now in the field at Sectors. My guess is in the future they might go afloat to the National Security Cutters as well at the program gets built out into the fleet.
Congratulations to the class of 2022!!!
