Class of 2024: The Journey Begins

For those of you who signed up for the USNA Alumnus Club, the photo program is up; They just posted 2024 Plebe Summer and the first album is loaded. 444 photos of 29 June, Naps, Enlisted and Prep plebe 2 be's reporting. Albums were also created for the remaining report dates.
Let the Waldo hunting begin!

DS reports at 10:15 tomorrow! I want to thank This SAF community for helping with in my own journey. So many different emotions and questions along the way. I stumbled upon the SAF after DS received nom and it started to become real. Signed right up to proudly post his appointment- and then poured over all info - quite regularly! Learned all about I-Day (pre-pandemic) then all the uncertainty and now finally here! As we wandered Annapolis, we found The Big Cheese, Iron Rooster, and so many others from your collective greatest hits. And yes, I was frying up bacon at 4:30 am pre-departure! Thanks for being with me along the way!

Bacon makes it way to another thread.

America.

Weather doesn’t look too bad in Annapolis for the 10 days. Tomorrow will be 82. After that it looks like high 88 to 90 .... The dew point is 67 or 68 each day, with humidity levels 80 to 85% .... This is not all that oppressive.
.

Are the males expected to show up with a shaved head this year or is the barber shop still open?

Welcome to the next rollercoaster. We are all happy to help as we can, and look forward to your shared wisdom down the road.

My son arrived last night late and reports he was taught to make his bed and given an MRE. Met his squad leader at some point. His report time is today at 145 but they sucked him in the machine this morning. Was able to talk for a few mins on phone between in processing (mom I look dope in my new (PT) uniform) and phone taken away literally while we were on the phone. He is in high spirits and can't wait to meet his roommate. Name tags for uniform and on door already provided. Was thrilled with his name tags and 5 boxes of supplies. Big white bag of uniforms was very heavy but some of the girls were outperforming some of the boys carrying it. (Go ladies of 2024!)

MRE was vegetarian taco-flavored pasta and he couldn't heat it up with the chemical packet due to some problem with the packet. I think it sounded grim but he didn't complain! My Navy vet Dad laughed so hard when I told him about that. My son is a foodie so I had to laugh at him eating MRE's. I wonder if they will convert to Kings Hall delivered meals once everyone arrives or after quarantine or not at all during Plebe Summer.
Also, he said he will not have any contact with us through his laptop during ROM so I believe we will not talk again until July 12th.
Room holds 3 but only two name tags and two sets of those 5 boxes of supplies. 36 pairs of socks. Lots of pictures taken during in processing.

He is on his way! And I started my Waldo search in the photos but only one blurry picture so far...

I hear the next roller coaster slowly slowly being pulled up to the top of the first drop...

There's no better cork for your 4th point of contact than a Meal-Ready-To-Eat.

I think the MRE was a single meal event (since that Plebe-to-be arrived in the evening), as my DS tells me that they are getting real food out to everyone and some meals are hot.

So that is how they are going to feed the Plebes for two weeks ! :) :) :) A nice intro, and will likely reduce the need for head calls !
(Just joking Parents, I am sure DS/DD will be well taken care of !)
.
[A nice intro] I concur .... Here are a couple pictures taken this past Sunday at 2pm while she was unpacking and organizing ... right before her iPhone was quarantined.

I like the label in the 2nd photo, place against a “Rock or Something”. She was laughing and “into it” ... excitedly.

Im back home after a successful delivery...we were flying all day so no chatting during the post report phoning. GF confirms they are busy though unpacking all their gear.

I am here, looking at the random things that annoy me when he is here, yet makes me miss him terribly today....piles of my plebe around the house. Stay tuned whether I clean them up or let them stay for a bit.

Of course,,, it will be nice for the next two weeks..then when the ROM is completed, the heat and humidity pumps will get started :)!

After Plebe Summer and a few weeks in Annapolis during Protramid Second Class summer (and of course June Week Prades), I swore I would never visit the area in the Summer again. I made it 30 years, when I broke down and went to a Classmates retirement ceremony in Norfolk. It was as hot and miserable as I remembered --but made a lot better with the adult beverages !

Amen my son mostly picked up his stuff but left his one year old toilet kit I got for all his overnight visit trips, etc. junior senior year in the middle of the entryway on the floor. What was inside - completely full of firecrackers! Just when you think they are all grown up....SMH

I held it together at the airport. Didn't lose it until I found myself putting hot pockets in my cart. Decided to stop shopping and go for a walk. DS has I assume been consumed my Mother B. He has managed to evade all USNA alumnus photographers and is AWOL on flicker. Mad skills at evasion in their infancy apparently.

Mine was in one or two pics early on walking in a line. But there were dozens of the kids before and behind him at several stations. At least it was proof of life.

And his t-shirt was tucked in already.
Maybe he will grow and learn...
