You're welcome. I though it might help to read the official USCGA documentation for those who couldn't seem to make the determination between what was required and what was recommended.
As for clarification of issue at hand, you added this comment to the string, "You think CGA requires everyone on the waitlist to go get passports on the off and unlikely chance they get plucked from the waitlist?"
The obvious answer is ABSOLUTELY YES! - they won't know who is a waitlist kid or a regular admission kid on Day One, and ALL will be 100% expected to have everything on their Required Items List.
And is it really good advice to state comments like, "While CGA wants them to have their passports, they never use them" ?
They don't "want" them to have it, they "require" them to have it. Okay, so we start our potential career in military service by deciding what we should consider important based upon whether it will be used or not?
I personally never used my weapon, but I was required to have it.
So, if I'm a parent of a kid on the USCGA waitlist, I'm gonna listen to you and not do anything because of the "tiny" and "unlikely" chance they get "plucked" off the waitlist....and my kid is going to not follow the Required Packing List and show up with gray underwear, etc. Not a chance.
Lastly, I counted 6 kids last year who posted on this Forum that they were accepted off of the Class of 2026 waitlist. One can assume there were at least 2 or 3 times as many who did not post here. I wonder it their parents didn't prepare at all for their kids to report and just showed up?
Waitlist parents and kids...believe me, do everything possible you can between now and Day One. You may have only a few weeks from the time that you hear they are admitted until reporting day. WHITE socks and t-shirts can be purchased quickly - passports take time, Dr's appointments (for shots) sometimes take time. Be proactive.
