Class of 2027 Waitlist

My youngest was pulled. May 11th. I dont recall how long he had to decide. It was at least a few days, not immediately. IMO, most know their answer rather quickly.

There were a few reductions in the waitlist that occur. It’s whittled down as state slates are finished up. Candidates will be pulled from the list, and other will be TWE’ed.
Can you explain what you mean by “It’s whittled down as state slates are finished up.”?

That's a term used for some of the other academies and not the USCGA. It's in regard to the nominations required by USNA, USAFA, and USMA (I can't remember if USMMA also uses nominations).

Does anyone know how long they have to accept if they’re on the waitlist and get an appointment?
They were given a few days but I know some said yes immediately. Last year, when the email was sent out asking if you wanted to still be considered/stay on the waitlist, my cadet was asked if he would say yes right away or if he would need a couple of days to think about his answer.

Anyone hear anything yet? This waiting is awful. DD handling it much better!
If it helps, and I don't think it will (I remember this phase painfully well...nothing truly "helped":), but at this point you aren't necessarily waiting for an individual phone call but more of a mass email to everyone on the waitlist stating whether or not they are pulling students from the waitlist and then asking you if you want to still be considered. We got that email last year mid-May and then the calls did not come until late May!

Thank you. That is something to go by at least!

Thanks everyone!!! I scoured all the locations within 30 miles and managed to find one appointment for TODAY!! That gives us exactly 9 weeks, which is the current long end of the expedited time line. I'll try talking to the person at the satellite city hall to find our best and quickest options available. If I have time, I'll also call up the Passport Agency per Capt MJ's suggestion!

Just wanted to thank everyone again! We received my DS’s passport (and returned birth certificate) in the mail today. Way quicker than expected! 😊 Hope you are all hanging in there and we hear some great news coming this week! 😎🤙🏼

Wow - that passport came fast. My husband and I had passport appointments at our local post office on 3/27 and we’re still waiting to receive ours!

Something to remember for everyone waiting...
Although decisions were due by 1 May for those who were offered a full (non-conditional) appointment, there is still a lot of work on the part of CGA Admissions to formulate the class of 2027. First they need to process all of the accepts and declines. They are still working through medical waivers as well. The date given for medical waivers was 15 May so hopefully they should know shortly after that date what the current class "looks like" so far. Once the dust settles and they have a clear picture of the number of medically-cleared incoming swabs (who have all accepted), then they will know how many applicants they want to pull from the waitlist.

But even when they have that number, a whole different process begins. Remember that the waitlist is not a 1 to N list. Everyone on the waitlist is considered a very qualified candidate who CGA would be happy to have join the class. Once they know the number they want to pull, they likely will start looking at which waitlisted applicants help round-out the class the best. Do they want more students from a particular major? Do they want more diversity in a certain area? Do they want more students from a certain area of the country? Do they want more musicians? Do they want more athletes in a particular sport? At this point in the decision process, those factors matter since everyone on the waitlist is considered roughly equivalent. This is why the process takes longer than you would think.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Love your insight @ProudMom7! Good luck to everyone deciding to stay on the waitlist, there are still some CGA appointments out there!

Yes, still hopeful here! For those of you saying you had an email and responded, was that just recently? Or are you referring to the initial waitlist offer email? Just wondering since I don't think my son got an email recently asking if he was still interested. But of course we are hyper-focused on his HS graduation tomorrow! Thanks! :)
