Class of 2027 Waitlist

Yes, still hopeful here! For those of you saying you had an email and responded, was that just recently? Or are you referring to the initial waitlist offer email? Just wondering since I don't think my son got an email recently asking if he was still interested. But of course we are hyper-focused on his HS graduation tomorrow! Thanks! :)
Oh, goodness, there it is in his email inbox. Lol. Graduation brain in full effect! Haha.:bounce1:

If you are interested in learning about the admissions profile of the USCGA class of 2023 applicant pool and accepted student demographics, here is a presentation by CGA Admissions Director CAPT Michael Fredie ’96. This was recorded a few weeks ago on April 18th, 2023.

Capt. Fredie has a special note for students currently on the waitlist around the 34:00 mark. The 41:35 mark shows a dashboard of how the admitted applicants meet the USCGA Service and Institutional Needs - essentially how the students fill spots by music, athletic program, and academic major. It also shows which areas could be filled by applicants on the waitlist.

Keep your heads up, you've made it this far!
Good luck to everyone still hoping for an appointment!

That video had some interesting info about the class of 2027 in it. The data was from April 1, so things have changed a bit since then, but 47% Recruited Athletes, 7% Recruited Musicians, 16% without test scores, 68% Early Action, 38% Female, 36% URM, 51% AIM. These numbers are not that different from recent years. but the emphasis on EA is heavier than ever.

They don't annouce it because that number is derived from the number of appointments that are issued but not accepted. They do announce the intended class size sometimes, but the waitlist is used to respond to what happens on May 1, and they'll continue going to the list until they have enough acceptances to reach their goal.

Happy Monday to those of us still hanging on! I told my DH: May this be the week that all our unknowns be made known! Praying for some great news for all of you still waiting! 😊

For anyone who hasn't seen the video. It said they are hoping to have 290 in the Class of 2027.

They made 471 appointment offers so far.

61 are coming in from CGAS
410 other (non-CGAS) offers were made
- 5 of those were deferrals from last year
- 279 offers were from EA
- 126 offers were from RA
** Note that some of these people might have had conditional offers and might not have gotten the required medical waiver.

Capt Fredie said that the percentage from EA was much higher this year due to the serious issues DODMERB was having. They thought it would be better to get more people through the medical process sooner if possible.

At the time of the video, most people had not responded yet so they didn't know how many spots they would have open for students on the wait list. As @ThreeOnTheSea stated above, the video also explains how they will try to fill any spots left, based on the target numbers they have for each state, each major, each sport, and band.

Getting anxious! Do you guys think we will start hearing by Friday?
I hope so! Although the email said they'll fill vacancies through no later than June 2. My DS has a one way ticket scheduled for June 9 to his plan B for summer camps, so it's going to take a lot to remain calm. 😅

Question. If they're on the waitlist and get an appointment, can they still get a waiver if its past May 15th?
Our DD (waitlist) received a call from her AO and was told it's a conditional appointment, pending medical. She was told it could be 1-2 weeks.
I know DODmerb was down for awhile, are they behind? Or if they find something can they issue a waiver this late in the game? The suspense is killing us. Any help would be fantastic

First, congratulations to your daughter! Second, DODMERB has nothing to do with the actual waivers. they just decide if she is qualified or not. It is up to CGA to decide on the waiver.

Thank you. Yes I forgot DODmerb doesn't do the waivers.

Congratulations to your DD! My DD had a conditional officer to NAPS, pending waiver approval. She turned in her AMI for waiver review around March 27 and she didn't see the denial until this past Monday, May 22. She still hasn't received an official turndown from USNA, but the denial is posted online. As you shared by others, DoDMERB has nothing to do with waiver approvals at this point.

Congratulations to everyone who got the call today!!! If you don't mind me asking did your DS or DD play sports, band and what was there degree program choice? Crossing my fingers we also get the magical call lol.

Just wondering if anyone has same situation as my DD, she's accepted into a service academy already and now she's offered from USCGA. what's your decision process?
