Class of 2027 Waitlist

Just wondering if anyone has same situation as my DD, she's accepted into a service academy already and now she's offered from USCGA. what's your decision process?
She thinks through where she wants to go. If she wants USCGA and service as a CG officer (THE most important element), she accepts, and immediately and appreciatively informs the other SA and rescinds her original acceptance. If she wants the original SA and service as an officer in that service, she declines USCGA. If she now decides neither is right - and that is okay - she takes appropriate action. Normally I tell candidates to take all the time they need, but at this point, be courteous, be thoughtful, be intentional, and don’t drag it out during the final stages of class-building across SAs.

My son got a call this morning, and was offered a spot at the academy. Mominmd, my son is in the same position as your daughter. He already accepted an appointment to another academy. Initially, CGA was his first choice. My dad was a Coast Guard officer for 30 years and my son has been interested in joining since my dad took him to a "take your kids to work" day at Coast Guard headquarters when he was little. My son went to AIM and loved it, applied early action and was placed on the waitlist then, and again in the spring. It was a very disheartening experience for him. He felt like he had to keep begging to be considered, while two ROTCs gave him 4 year offers and the other academy gave him a yes back in February. He is leaning toward the other academy, but I keep reminding him to think about the career, not his ego and not the schools' reputations or admissions processes. Since another poster asked about sports and activities, my son was a five year member (our high school is 8th-12th) of cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. He lettered in all three, and was the CC captain, but was not a stand out athlete. He was in band for one year (8th), was in NHS and math NHS, Key Club, church youth group, and a "founding member" of the Ultimate Frisbee Club at his school (lol), top 10% of his class, a manager at an ice cream shop, and went on a missions trip to Central America two summers ago. So, although I am biased, he is pretty well-rounded. He thinks that he was wait-listed so long because he isn't an athletic super-star. Although I agree with the post above about being "courteous," I think a decision this monumental requires careful, prayerful consideration. Best wishes to all of you, and thank you for raising kids who want to serve our country!

We were in a similar situation last year and I think everyone's deciding factor is different. For my DS the deciding factor was realizing the culture he actually identified with and the smaller class sizes. While he wanted to be able to serve our country, his desire had always been to protect and uphold laws that protect, more than to attack and/or go overseas. He also knew he would need academic help and felt like small class size meant more one on one time with professors. He had a few other deciding factors but those were the biggest!

So if we don't get the call today do you think it means that it is over? Or can calls come all week? Looking for any silver lining
I think last year there were some calls around this time and then a few more at the very end of May. Someone said that the email stated everyone on the waitlist would know by 2 June. They might make a few offers and then wait to see if those people accept before deciding whether to offer a few more.

Congratulations to everyone who got the call today!!! If you don't mind me asking did your DS or DD play sports, band and what was there degree program choice? Crossing my fingers we also get the magical call lol.
My DD does play sports, her major is MES and she also is a prior applicant.(She's finishing her freshman year at Mass maritime Academy) Now just hoping they approve the waiver. Good luck to all!!

I guess that's it. No more calls. I am sure the holiday. Comes it. Probably we get an email on Tuesday closing wait list..
She says she will reapply for next class 2028. To all on wait list . You did a great job. Don't be discouraged. If you really want it. Try again.

Don't give up. Last year some people were taken from the wait list on 31 May.

Not over until it's over! I believe they said the waitlist would close on June 2nd, which is Thursday next week!

For those of you who did receive a call, who did the call come from? The admissions officer for your region or the overall admissions director? Trying to see if the fact DD AO is out of office until 5/30 might be a good sign of no phone call!
