Class of 2031 starts now.

After reading and watching for nearly two years, the official journey to Class of 2031 has begun. It amazes me that admissions has to work tirelessly, diligently finishing one class, just to turn around and begin the whole process over again.
Our son attended Summer Seminar and this experience cemented his desire to attend. He has received LOI, is scheduling his Interviewer ALO and getting DODMERB scheduling finalized. We definitely hope to have an early decision but understand there is no guarantee of anything. Looking forward to the ride and hopefully be able to share the experience with many others here. I think it depends. The essays are pretty easy to write if they’ve put a lot of thought into the subject, and are passionate about what they’ve chosen. My kid is finished with the DODMERB physical, but still has the vision portion next month, and waiting for the CFA for it to cool down.

Wait just to make sure we're thinking the same thing. USAFA has a CFA and navy has a different test. Navy's can be done at their visits, USAFA's cannot. USAFA CFA can only be done by the member and cannot be transferred to the other Academies unlike some other testing ( I believe west point sometimes allowed transfer for example). Now if the CFA was done with a navy instructor and taken care of on the members time awesome!

The CFA - same events, same protocol - is used by 4 of 5 SAs.

USCGA uses a different test and not the CFA.

Each SA using the CFA likely has a different pass/fail line.

Each SA using the CFA likely counts it differently in its whole candidate evaluation algorithm.

It is up to the candidate to determine if they can complete the CFA at a summer leadership program or during a candidate visit. Admissions will know.

It is up to the candidate to determine if they can ask one SA to send their score to another SA who will accept it.

Or the candidate can do the CFA on their own with an administrator per the CFA protocol, as many do or have done by this time, and the administrator sends it to all SAs applied for that require the CFA.

I use “up to the candidate,” because it is usually the case one SA can send a CFA score from a visit or summer program to another SA, occasionally it doesn’t work that way, and we can’t assume that what was done last year will be done the next cycle.

I didn’t submit my application until like Nov 29 and now I’m sitting in the dorm having just gotten my shoulder boards pinned on! As long as you meet the deadlines, a good application is all that matters.

With respect to the essays, make sure you answer the prompt! Have a third party review your essay to make sure of this.

Yes!! I received an appointment on the 19th of December and just spent time with my family on A-Day. As long as dealines are met on time your DD should be fine.

FWIW, I seem to recall my DD not completing her essays until late last August. I believe her application deadline was Nov 30. She got it all done on time and received an appointment in the spring. Your DD should be fine as long as she is working on it a little every day. Good luck!

As others have said, she isn’t behind! It’s important to write strong, genuine essays that answer the prompt. My DS finished his application by Labor Day weekend, had his ALO interview and DODMERB exams in Oct, and received his appt mid-December.

My DS is class of 2029 and got his appointment May 24th! He received a LOI in November. It was a very stressful almost six months of waiting and hoping and worrying. We never gave up hope and he is a thriving C3C now! Best of luck to your son!

Also super important to note: passing and crushing the CFA are 2 different things. I would lean more towards maxing out the CFA and forgo being satisfied with a pass. How do I know? Im almost certain my DS’s CFA played a major role in his securing his principal nomination. Candidates are so competitive, even a small detail, such as a CFA score, can be what sets one apart from the next.
