My daughter was contacted by Admissions to provide an updated transcript and ACT scores. The contact said she is going to be reviewed by Senior Leadership as a candidate. She attended AIM and made a good impression. She has not completed application, but intends to apply for early admission Oct 15th. She is not a recruited athlete, but has been it touch with a coach to try to get recruited. Anyone else having this happen?

This is very positive! They’re looking to award about 40 LOAs and get them finalized this week. Sounds promising. Even if an LOA doesn’t happen, applying EA is wise. 2029 will be a bit smaller class than the last couple years, and a rather big chunk of appointments are offered EA.

Why is the class of 2029 going to be a bit smaller?

Also, how do you know they award about 40 LOAs?

There was discussion on this from admissions on the parents association annual meeting last week.

We have a new Director of Admissions and almost entirely new admissions staff. They seem to have a renewed sense of vigor and urgency in certain areas. We're obviously competing in largely the same candidate pool as all the other service academies, so lots of emphasis on securing top talent. CGA has always done LOAs like everyone else, but it seems as if they have maybe been later in getting them out. Naval Academy pushed out LOAs over a week ago and CGA is making it a priority to follow suit asap.

It sounds as if they're going to try to be more aggressive in reviewing applications and getting decisions out as well. Where it was common to not start rolling out EA appointments until Thanksgiving weeks, it sounds as if they'd like to start notifying end of October/early November. I think by default, this would mean there will be effort to review applications as quickly as they get them. That said, applicants should probably be putting max effort into getting their application package completed, polished and submitted sooner than later.

Regarding class size, it's mostly because they're operating at over capacity right now. The last two classes have been right at or near the 300 mark and while there's certainly attrition, it's not at the rate it may have been 10 or 15+ years ago. Chase Hall is jam packed and there are lots of kids tripled up right now...way more than typical. It was mentioned target will probably be more like 250 this year.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I shared it with my DD. CGA is her #1 choice and she is still buzzing after finding out a few days ago she will be receiving an LOA this week.

Congratulations to your DD! Make sure to keep plan B going while she gets medically cleared, surprises happen.
Yes, they do and already have. DD was disqualified because her dentist wanted her to get a consult on her wisdom teeth. We asked DoDMERB why because she wasn't symptomatic, and they said the dentist told the interviewer she was going for a consult and that meant more work was needed, even if it was just a consult, so she wasn't qualified. She is scheduled to get her wisdom teeth out, so it will be completely resolved, barring any issues with the surgery. CGA wasn't concerned and said just send the X-rays in after the surgery. So the lesson for everyone else should be: Unless your wisdom teeth are symptomatic, don't go for a consult. And of course always keep plans B, C, and D alive.

Congrats on the LOA. DS is in the process of completing his medical. Eye appointment is complete, physical is scheduled in the next 2 weeks. Out of curiosity, how did the interviewer for Dodmerb even know who to interview? DS still has his wisdom teeth and I only recall 2 questions regarding dental. Braces and any tooth problems. He just had to list the orthodontist who did the braces bc we checked yes to braces. Was it the orthodontist who “recommended” to get a consult on her wisdom teeth and this how all of this came up? If you had to check yes on the other dental problems and this is how it came to life, don’t have to worry about answering. I am just curious because of getting ready to go through this process and have been trying to have everything on hand for when or if they ask for AMI to keep the process smoother.

I have no idea what is in DS ortho charts, but I would think almost all orthodontists are going to say “consult with Denist regarding wisdom teeth” to not mess up the work of getting the teeth straightened.

She checked yes to a question about dental and wrote that she had fillings and that she was recommended for a consult about her wisdom teeth. DoNMER confirmed with the dentist about the referral and that was enough for her dq. The case manager said a referral means more work is needed so that was enough for a DQ even though she is not symptomatic. She could have not said anything but she felt it was the correct thing to do.

Update, DD received LOA in mail yesterday, does say they are sending out around 40. She was contacted last week by sports coach who told her to expect LOA. DD has call scheduled today with Coach to see if she can likely get a position on team. DD is excited and feels great to have this great opportunity already.

Is 40 LOA’s higher than the past? I wonder if they will still give as many early action acceptances too?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing! My guess is that it's higher than usual. Mostly because it seems admissions wants to come out with guns blazing this year. I would imagine anyone who gets an LOA would receive an EA appointment, so the net EA appointments will probably be the same at least percentage wise.
