In my appointee kit I read that each cadet should bring a pair of cleats along to the academy. What cleats are recommended/most popular? I know we will be using them for intramurals. Should they be for a specific sport: soccer, football, baseball style, etc?

mine brought cleats and so did others, they never used them during bct. we sent it anyway just in case.

Based on information received on this forum, my daughter didn't bother to bring and any and she was fine.

My DS brought soccer cleats and was glad to have them for intramural sports during BCT.

My cadet brought cleats and did use them during BCT. Do not purchase football cleats. Purchase soccer cleats. Football cleats have the extra cleat on the toe. I believe they are not allowed to be used for intramural sports.

If you plan on participating in sports during BCT, and I assume we'll be on grass, cleats will obviously add more traction so you won't be slipping everywhere in your running shoes.

If you don't have any cleats, I recommend soccer cleats, specifically Adidas copa. They're the basic black leather and traditional Adidas three stripes. They're a bit pricey (around 70-100 range) but worth it because the leather forms to your feet and you end up breaking them in easier and faster. They're my favorite cleats after playing over 10 years of select soccer. They'll also come in handy in other sports besides soccer.

100 days til BCT!

Seems to be a split decision

as to whether BCT-cleats are necessary. Spending that kind of money for a possible one-off situation maybe money better spent elsewhere. DS feels he'll evaluate coming out of BCT what one may need in select footwear after experiencing all that will be available and achievable by a Cadet.

If you think long term.... most intramurals are played on the endless amounts of outdoor fields that they have... so if you plan on playing rugby, soccer, football, sprint football, ultimate frisbee, etc... I don't think it would hurt to have them with you while at school.

You don't really need cleats. I think it's a waste of money because I've only used it during BCT and never afterwards. I've seen plenty of basic cadets run around in their sneakers, so you'll be fine without them.
