Salutations,
My son has almost completed all the requirements, but we got a letter for AMI.

It requires:
R102.04 --- REQUIRES A PHYSICIAN'S APPOINTMENT: Please obtain and submit a written interpretation of a current echocardiography, transthoracic, real-time with image documentation (2D), includes M-mode recording, when performed, complete, with spectral Doppler echocardiography, and with color flow Doppler echocardiography for evaluation OF Patent Foramen Ovale .

He kept trying to get it through option A, for a week, which was CIV from DODMETS but could not get through...

So for option 2, any MTF... For the last 2 weeks, he has been trying to call and get appointments at Madigan Hospital, Bremerton Naval Hospital etc, but either they do not pick up, or tell him to call DEERS and get a Login, without which they cannot put him in for an Appointment or some other run-around.

So exasperated, he finally told me what was going on... and I thought this place would be a good place to start.

I do not mind paying out of pocket, (he did!) , and I sent over a request to his PCP who he has been seeing from the day he was born.

My question is.... Could we have done anything different to get an appointment at a MTF ?
And assuming his Doc gives him a referral... which Civilian facility would be able to do this?

Thank you in advance!

We recently navigated this for a Pulmonary Appointment, but my son was able to get someone on the line from Dodmets the day he called, several times, so I'm not sure why he's having so much trouble getting through to anyone on the phone. Nothing is showing for the assigned provider in the Dodmets portal? That popped up pretty quickly too for our son. Your best bet would be to get a referral from his PCP if you decide to pursue paying out of pocket. That's a very specific test so you want to be sure he confirms that he's getting exactly what they asked for. You could try calling around to local Cardiologists in the area, but if your PCP has someone they can refer you to, you'll probably have more success. If that comes through then you can notify Dodmets he's located is own provider, but in the meantime he could keep trying to reach out to Dodmets for their provider. I would give up on getting it at military treatment facility, they are extremely hard to reach and my guess is they might just refer someone out to a specialist anyway depending on the size of the facility.

JMHO, but going thru DoDMETS or DoDMERB, by your son contacting his DoDMERB rep (listed on the DoDMERB website is likely the best option, they are contracted, know what tests are required and how to submit them for fastest review. Using an MTF, as a non-dependent or non-CAC card holder is very difficult INCONUS (in the US). If you were abroad different rules apply, and DoDMERB coordinates with the appropriate MTF to get things done, but in the US, as a civilian trying to get an appointment at a MTF is VERY difficult.

An alternative, if it comes to that is for your son to contact admissions at whichever academy he is applying to and asking his rep there how to handle the problem. If he is applying to numerous academies, contact any one of them, or maybe each of them as needed until a resolution is reached.:)

Using your family physician could be problematic as sometimes civilian physicians do not know the military requirements or best wording for reports. If your son is truly out of options, I guess you need to do whatever you can to get the tests done, just make sure what DoDMERB wants EXACTLY!
