My son is interested in trying out for club lacrosse at USNA. When are the tryouts so he knows when to bring his equipment? Is it during plebe summer or after school starts? He has heard various responses. Is anyone able to train with the Navy lacrosse team over plebe summer or is it limited to recruits? If anyone is able to train, when would they take their equipment? Thanks in advance!

Recruited varsity lax athletes usually have an opportunity to drop gear with coaches before I-Day, and there is often a team social event with the coaches beforehand. Club lax, not sure. Your son could always take the initiative, exercise his professional communications skills and contact the club lax coaches. Be sure to explore the hamburger menu.

If he wants to do lacrosse during sports period he’ll need to bring his equipment on I-Day. The detailers will most likely lock it away until he needs it. If he does this he’ll be with the varsity team just for the summer. Club Lacrosse has tryouts early in the fall semester, so if that’s all he’s interested in, I would suggest leaving the gear at home for the summer, and bringing it with you on Plebe Parents Weekend.

Thank you, this is very helpful to know. He received responses from several academy grads who played club lax and they provided different responses. So, I thought this forum may provide some additional insight. Thanks for this clarification.
