Hi there. I'm currently a student applying to West Point.
Does anyone know if the Martial Arts Club at West Point (specifically Olympic Taekwondo) have tryouts? And does it count as one of the sports requirements at West Point?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you. I read through it but it didn't really answer my questions. It doesn't really say if it covers the Sports requirements at West Point, since it's listed in the "hobby clubs". I know judo requires a tryout (because it's listed as a competitive sports club), but I can't seem to find any other information about taekwondo.

Hobby clubs, when I was the academy, didn’t cover the sports requirement. Only competitive clubs and corps squad did, because they were the only ones granted “authos.” The folks who played with the hobby clubs (ultimate frisbee comes to mind for that time period) would play IMs or go to drill during the normal slot and then in addition, go to practice for their sport. Most did have a tryout associated with them, because travel for competitions would only allow due to funding

Yes, there are tryouts and I recommend trying out. For anyone who reads this, I recommend you try out for any club you are interested in, even if you have no experience whatsoever. A lot of clubs are open to taking in new people and if you make the club, you can get a lot opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people, and travel outside of the West Point.

Do you know if they have any authos? Can't seem to find any of that information on DPE website/facebook page.
Thanks!

Hobby clubs won’t have authos. If they’re listed on the DPE site as a hobby club, they won’t have authos

I made the team with no experience this year; we still have to do company athletics, but we only have to go to one day of drill per week (partial authos).

Thank you! Then I'm assuming tryouts will be after Beast, since it's only partial authos. Thanks.
