I play water polo in high school and would very much like to continue playing in college. I am aware that USNA and USAFA have varsity water polo programs, but realistically I do not believe that i would be capable of walking on at a D1 varsity program like Navy.

I know that USMA has a very competitive club team that would be more accessible to me as a player, and i was wondering if anybody on this forum knew anything about a club water polo team at USNA in addition to its varsity program? I am fairly certain it exists because I have seen scores & such online, but I have had little luck finding any more information. Does anyone know if it is run like any other club sport at USNA?

I had the same question. I would also like to continue polo and swimming, because that's part of my life. I think I'd freak out w/o being in the pool.

I contacted the USNA club adviser and he said to contact the USNA Varsity Water Polo Coach, since the club is for people who don't make the cut for the Varsity roster.

Head Coach: Mike Schofield 410-293-5558
Assistant Coach: Mladen Stanicic 410-293-3152

I still have to make that call tomorrow. I'll see you June the 29th dude.

Thanks for the information usnaco!

I won't be seeing you on the 27th though hahaha, I haven't even applied yet. I would be c/o 2018 if I can get in.

I'll probably talk to my old club coach too, his son is a freshman on the varsity team

I hope I can answer some of your questions/concerns about playing polo at Navy. USNA has two water polo teams. One is the D1 Varsity program that you know about already. The other is a Collegiate club team. They compete under the CWPA in the Atlantic Division. They usually practice 2-3 times a week and are pretty competitive (took 2nd in the Atlantic the past 2 years). They do hold tryouts and encourage people to come out with varying levels of experience. At the same time, they are not at the same level or commitment as Varsity. While they compete under the Men's division, women are allowed to try out as well.

If anyone has any questions about playing polo at Navy(Varsity or Club), feel free to PM me, email me(taylor.sultz@gmail.com), or reply to this thread so I can help you out.

I played a season for the Varsity team and then went on to form the Club team and bring them into the CWPA. I also helped coach under Scho after I graduated in '12.

Hi!
I recently joined this forums after I got an LOA to USNA, and I am seriously considering going there as part of the Class of 2018.

I have been a swimmer for four years in high school, and it is something I would like to continue in college. However, I don't think I will be fast enough to make the Varsity Team, and I was considering water polo as an alternative.

Is it possible to make the Club Water Polo team as a male with no previous water polo experience, who swims about 2:00 in the 200 Free and 24 in the 50 free? My school does not have a water polo team, and I do not know of any nearby.

Thank you for the help!
