All,

I wanted to give you a heads up that the US Coast Guard was featured in the July 2008 issue of Popular Mechanics. It should be pretty easy to find, a Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk is plastered on the cover.

The article, which is around 10 pages long, covered the Coast Guard rescue of the Alaska Ranger, a 189' fishing vessel that went down in the Bering Sea on 23Mar08 (Easter morning). The Alaska Ranger had 47 POB.

I read the article, maybe three times. While I wasn't involved in the event, I found the story line, language and feelings as accurate as I can say, given the experiences I've had in the Coast Guard up to this point. I had a few friends on the CGC Munro, caught some of the story floating around the fleet, but the article really put it all together. It's very well written, speaks to the spirit of the rescue and the cooperative aspect of the Coast Guard fleet, aviation community, and command centers/stations.

I don't want to ruin the story for you, so take a look in Popular Mechanics.

Excellent job by some fellow Coasties!

I read about the incident somewhere else, and it's amazing.
