My son starts CGAS this year so news regarding the Coast Guard is especially of interest. The investment we are seeing speaks to both the age of their current assets but also the extended role they are taking further afield. Nonetheless it looks like interesting times for this service. Link
 
I feel bad for the guys and gals who are commanding officers of the new state-of-the-art cutters as lieutenants and lieutenant commanders, experiencing all of that cool tech, only to spend later commands as commanders on 210' cutters from 1964-1969. Sooooo less capable (but pretty).

If they do it right, they'll position themselves to command the soon to be newest shiny toys of the Coast Guard (the first of which is scheduled to be commissioned 2022):

I'll be sad to see the 270s go, although hopefully the OPCs have a better ride ;)
