Coast Guard Special Operations

CGA class of 2004 was the first class where the Coast Guard shifted to grads going to non-afloat units. Yes, the vast majority went to cutters, but there were also sector folks and flight school folks.

Bahrain isn't an easy billet to get, but at least 5 years ago, when I kind of cared, a good tour on a cutter our of Bahrain meant a good shot at getting something else afloat, if you wanted it.

Then there are some sneaky billets, like going from an ice breaker to XO of a 140'. Some people who got a national security cutter pulled a mid-season transfer. I had some shipmates like that. New NSC? We need some second tour JOs... boom, back-to-back afloat tours.

Since I graduated and eventually got out, it sounds like some additional afloat billets have opened up.

Interesting times....

LITS, could you please not give away my entire career goal secrets :p

I'm trying for the Icebreaker to XO of a 140 route myself :shake: The less competition from my classmates, the better! :p

3 weeks from today till Billet Night...are you going for the 140's?

My classmate is the next CO of Sturgeon Bay.

LOVE LOVE LOVE 140's. Only went TAD on one for 2 weeks, but it's a GREAT class of cutters.

No, I'm not sure what an ENS would DO on a 140 to be honest. I'm going for Polar first tour so I can get some ice breaking experience then hopefully get picked up for XO of a '140 second tour. It's not advised (and the detailers won't let you) go from one platform to a different position on the same platform your first two tours.

Cuz you gots to diversifies with your billets!

I wasn't aware there were ANY ENS billets on 140's, with the possible exception of the 140'+ barge combo.

One of my 2013 friends put down a 140' out of the Great Lakes as his #1 choice. Maybe it's similar to the 110' thing?
