New London- The Coast Guard barque Eagle returned to City Pier Thursday after almost six months at sea.

Eagle, the academy’s training vessel, left April 12, transited through the Panama Canal and visited ports along the West Coast before going back through the canal and north to New London, for a total of 12,600 nautical miles.

About 600 cadets and 90 officer candidates spent time on the Eagle this summer, learning about life at sea, the traditions of the Coast Guard and how to work as a team.

“Fantastic,” said Capt. J. Christopher Sinnett, the commanding officer, in describing the cruise. “Absolutely fantastic.”

The Eagle was originally scheduled to return tomorrow but sailed in a day early because of an approaching storm.

Cadets and officer candidates training next summer will sail to Europe, then return stateside to sail along the East Coast.

L59 can't wait til Steve graduates...me too...all good!

My suggestion would be for you to go to each of the recruiting offices and get as much info as possible. Then make the comparisons for yourself. On here your going to get what people think about the service they were in. Each has it's good and bad points. Or, make an appointment for you and your son at each of the recruiting offices and go with him.

No that is GOOD NEWS!

Welcome Home!
