For those who will not get in this year and will go to college instead and reapply, what classes should they take? I know it is advised to take calculus and chemistry, but there are multiple types of each. What specific calculus and chemistry would be what they want, and what other classes are important?

Freshman-level calculus, chemistry and English — at the very least. If you can go higher, even better. Mimic a plebe schedule as much as possible, so add history and government. No fluff classes.

Math and science should be STEM level classes. Do not take watered down versions offered to non-STEM majors unless the more rigorous versions are unavailable. The four most important courses are: Math (preferably calculus), English, Physics, and Chemistry.

+1 to Midcake - fluff classes will not help.
