Hello!
I am currently a junior in high school, but I take my classes at the Kent State Tuscarawas Branch. I have over 30 hours already and I’m going to have more when I graduate. Do I still qualify for the AROTC or the AFROTC high school scholarships? I can’t find a direct answer, so I thought I’d ask on here!

check with the branch. 30 credits might put you out of contention but not sure

For Army, check with a college ROO for a possible campus based 2 or 3 year scholarship.

If you check with the appropriate ROTC Scholarship website, you will likely find that if you have 30 or more college credits on your collegiate record (they actually transfer and are accepted) you are no longer eligible for the National Scholarships (3 and 4 Year Scholarships). Our DS found himself in that position, and went to the University he chose on an academic scholarship, did walk on the first semester and was encouraged to apply for the "in house" 2 or 3 yr scholarship. You need college transcripts, and your PMS recommendation and then it signed off on by the CO. Depending on the Service and type of scholarship STEM majors usually do well, Liberal Arts are more competitive.

AROTC - Our experience differs than others indicate above. Continue to apply as a HS Applicant even with more than 30 credits. With dual enrollment 30+ credits you do not have to transfer all the credits to your scholarship school of choice. My DD received and fully utilized a 4 year AROTC scholarship with more than 30 credits available to transfer in - she worked with the school and did not transfer them all in. She did transfer in enough that she got higher priority for registration/housing after first semester. She retook Calc 2/3, Chemistry 1/2, Physics 1/2, and an English class to ensure her GPA was high. In general, as long as your degree of choice requires 4 years/8 semesters of attendance you still qualify for a 4 year scholarship - take 12 credits per semester as one option. Contacting the Recruiting Ops Officer at your school of choice is a good idea mentioned by others.

Agreed, but the "catch" is you have to work with your college to NOT transfer credits. Some schools will some won't, make sure you do your research. DS did not have an option, when college got his HS transcript they "automatically" transferred the credits that were transferrable, even ones he cannot use in furtherance of his major. I think, if you apply early enough, before a college transfers any credits you may be able to skirt the rule that way, but if you send in a transcript from Kent State to Cadet Command with your app showing too many college credits it may not work, JMHO.

Having basically a college transcript, and not AP, DE, or IB Credits on your HS transcript may not work, check with you preferred college Unit Command and see what they think. A lot of programs, if they want you, could offer you a "Academic Scholarship" for Freshman year in lieu of the 4 yr Scholarship.

@Impulsive - You are probably right regarding timing and differences by University. Her application including PFT and PMS interview were complete in mid August before school started up again for senior year. She listed her pending Sr Yr activities (classes, sports, EC's) on a 'supplemental' page of the application. Only her HS transcript through Jr Yr with Sr Yr classes listed was submitted - not the community college transcript. Recently her younger brother has worked with his college adviser to include/exclude transfer credits based on intended major. As a Science major he did not want to transfer in Chem 1/2 but when he switched to Engineering no further Chemistry was required so he had them added as transfer credits.
