College English Classes

I'm a college student and I'm curious..

what counts as an "English" class? Anything in humanities/social science classes? or classes like Creative Writing, Introduction to Fiction, etc?

Something that requires you to write properly and write well. I would stay away from courses such as sociology, criminology, women's studies, men's studies (just to be fair), etc. However, the course can be "fun." While at USNA, I took Science Fiction and Detective Fiction. Things such as that would be ok provided they have a writing requirement.
