Hey guys,

I had a colonoscopy done last year to see if there were any issues from be complaining about prolonged stomach pain. They did not find anything but I am still concerned having this on my records could raise some eyebrows when they review my history. Is this something I should worry about or am I just over concerned?

Just one man's opinion but I think you are just being overly concerned. They don't ask what procedures you've undergone, but what things you been diagnosed with. You weren't diagnosed with anything so I do not think it's an issue. When filling out forms remember to answer exactly what's asked, no more, no less. If you weren't diagnosed with something by a doctor then you do not have it. Many people have created unnecessary issues and even been DQed by self-diagnosing. Don't do it! If you have a question ask your parents and have them review everything before submitting. I once knew a kid who got a ticket and was ready to answer "Yes, I was arrested" when he wasn't.

I had pretty much the exact same issue. This was 2 years ago, I went to my gastroenterologist and I complained about my stomach acting strangely because of accutane. He checked me out and asked me about my symptoms, he pretty much said that I'm all good but that the only way he'll know for sure is by giving me a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. So I got them done, he said that I'm a healthy man, all that was found of very minimal concern was a mild patch of gastritis. He never prescribed me any medicine and just told me limit acidic food consumption to three times a week.

DoDMERB has asked me for a bunch of remedial's. It's been a long process, gather everything from the doctor, including his notes and all of the reports from the colonoscopy. They will probably ask for it.

I'm still waiting on the remedial's I just sent in so I can't tell you if the outcome has a good chance at being positive.

If you have severe nodular acne and need Accutane, you must be off the medicine for four weeks without recurrence before you can be considered medically qualified per DoD Instruction 6013.03. As for the colonoscopy, I would not think that by itself would be a problem. They will definitely review your remedials re: Accutane and acne, but if your acne hinders your wearing of material or equipment, or prevents shaving it will probably need a waiver.

Good Luck.....it seems like there is a ton of waivers our there!
