Good afternoon. My son, a sophomore in high school, is interested in applying to the Naval Academy. He is colorblind. Does this lessen or eliminate his chances of being accepted or merely preclude him from certain positions? Thanks in advance.

I haven't gone through the admissions process yet, but I did talk to a local state congressman who said his son was denied due to him being colorblind. But I'm pretty sure you can get a waiver for it.

USNA limits colorblind waivers to 20/class. A Midshipmen will be limited to USMC ground or restricted line service selection. If you google USMC ground officer MOSs and USN restricted line officers it will give details on what would be eligible to your DS. Even if he goes USMC things like Communications Officer would be off limits as they do a lot of wiring and green/red are very important colors for that.
