So DS just commissioned.:D

DW and I purchased a nice mahogany frame for his University diploma, but I am wondering if most officers also frame and display their Presidential commissioning certificate or not? (They were handed out in a nice presentation folder).

It is an odd document size 10.5 x 13.

Thoughts?

Is there a preferred vendor for this sort of frame? (please do not post links).

I never displayed mine as a JO. It lived in a folder for many years, traveling with other important papers. I finally got it custom-framed with triple matting for a nice effect, and hung it in one of the bedrooms our USNA sponsor mids hang out in. DH’s ditto. The mids get a kick out of it.

I had a high resolution copy made of my husband's certificate when he commissioned as a Warrant Officer. I framed that and stored the original in with our important documents.

I believe my parents framed mine for me.

Back in the day, my "office" was a desk in a Quonset hut in a common area. I don't believe I had anything personal in the area. When I finally got an office in subsequent assignments, I hung some "moto" pictures but nothing personal. However, as my career progressed I had a "I love me" wall/room at home that displayed all my memorabilia. My wife hated it but as I remember everyone did this. My commission along with awards, unit photo's, flags, my sword, etc all had spots.

After my discharge, my "I like me" wall has shrunk to a few important pieces. My commission is one of them. Interestingly, I didn't frame and hang my diploma until just recently - 35 years after graduation!

The Mids probably get a kick out it because of the date :( . I'm not throwing stones, I suspect we are of the same era. That's kinda like my story of checking into my first squadron, and the Command Master Chief had a framed eval dated a week before I was born (and he was a second class Petty Officer at the time).

I really don't know where my Commissioning Certificate ended up ...My framed diploma is on my office wall (along with a Needlepoint crest that my Wife did), and I have a vague recollection of framing the Commissioning Certificate with matching frames. Once the Ensign certificate was superceded by LTJG and LT, it kinda got put away somewhere. I will have to look in my footlocker, where are my Navy memorabilia is stashed.

Nothing like being a living relic of the 20th c.

Both of my son's certificates were already framed when they received them. My younger son has his on a wall with his diploma and other awards and certs in his home office. Older son has all his stuff hung in his media room, he has a bit more having now been in two different Army branches. I think the best thing in there is a tail rotor blade from an OH-58 that his Platoon Sgt painted the company logo and colors and mounted.

Remember when an O-6 looked old as dirt? Now the LTs look like little kids.
My DW has always had a young looking face, especially if she has just done PT.
One time as an LT in Korea she just finished individual PT and passed by her Brigade CO and CSM. The CO stopped her and said, “Hey young lady. What are you doing over here in Korea? Visiting your dad?” He assumed she was some kid on summer break visiting her dad. “No sir. I’m one of your LTs.” He turned beat red and started hammering and hawing. She says the CSM, who recognized her, was obviously enjoying the COs discomfort at his major gaff.

I don't have any idea where that is. My Office (at home) looks like it could be on "HoarderTV", though.
