And so in the span of an hour, I presided over the commissioning ceremony for 20 very bright and energetic new Ensigns and 2nd Lieutenants. What an honor indeed to have the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps as the keynote speaker and the weather cooperated for our venue at the Jefferson Memorial. I was pleased to have the colors presented by a combination of the Navy Ceremonial Guard and Marine Corps' 8th and I, not to mention a brass quintet provided by the President's Own Marine Band (hard to get them unless you happen to have a Marine 4 Star as your speaker)

We lined up for a group photo at the end, and the General asked me......"how do we do the hands?" I must have looked confused because I could see his wheels turning in his head, and then he simply bellowed......."Everybody left hand over right!" and in a blink, PRESTO, every left hand was over right for consistency. I smiled when I saw the photo. What a great finish to the season, and to my time at the helm here at GWU!

BZ to you, Captain Meyers, for a job well done and your gift of a new crop of well-trained leaders for the Fleet and Corps.
