Commissioning into Navy from Coast Guard

I was hoping that maybe someone could help me out with something I've been tossing around in my head. I was accepted into the Coast Guard Academy for the class of 2022. I have already accepted. Since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being a fighter pilot, but it's always been something I regarded as unrealistic until very recently. Although I would love to go to the Academy and fly for the Coast Guard, they do not have fighters. I was wondering if it is even possible for a Coast Guard officer to switch to the Navy (since I have heard of those in the Navy switching to CG). I don't mean straight out of the academy, moreso after I went to flight school for CG and served my time with them. Just curious. This isn't a dealbreaker for me whatsoever concerning the CG, but I'm just wondering if it is even a possibility.

It would seem an easier path to fighter pilot would be to not pursue USCGA and instead commission via AFROTC, NROTC or NROTC/MO and compete for a pilot slot. (Then cross your fingers for a fighter slot).

I don't believe there EVER is a guarantee of a particular air frame for a pilot candidate in any branch, although Army has a warrant officer program for Helos.

^^ I agree. A VERY small number cross-commission each year who graduate from an SA. Not sure of the stats a few years after that, since that is rarely discussed here. Good to remember there is no guarantee of your service selection. SA's aren't ordinary colleges where you study X in order to do Y after you graduate. Even if you attend USNA, there are a lot of things that need to happen to fly fighters and it is a competition with your peers with no guarantees.
 
As a graduate of another academy with a DS at USCGA, I have be impressed by the fact that 90% of the USCGA graduates will immediately report to their first assignment without additional training. With the other academies, newly commissioned officers still have to attend additional training before they report to their first operational assignment. This means that the USCGA's job is to train you to be a Coast Guard officer and the coast guard NEEDS YOU. I know things happen, but please do not start your academy career thinking something like this is possible.
 
Yes, I really was just wondering if that was even possible. I would much rather go the Coast Guard route and not fly fighters than go to into any other branch, just wanted to hear what others had to say on the idea. Thank you to all!
 
Can’t cross commission from CGA to another service (there was a short lived SEAL program, but that was different).

I did have a classmate get out after his five years to join the Air Force.
 
Just throwing this out there, but the Coast Guard flies some cool, very demanding rotary missions.

This was my daily plug for helicopters...we're entering block leave and I won't get to fly until after the new year *sigh*

Did your classmate enlist after his commitment, or was he able to keep his status as an officer?
 
I think he went to OCS and had a lower officer rank.

He wanted to fly but his eyes weren’t good enough for CG aviation. I guess AF isn’t as strict with the eyes.
