The spotlight now shifts to USNA Class of 2021 and Commissioning Week. Future Officers to be, do enjoy the week and take it all in with your family, loved ones and classmates. Your classmates will scatter throughout the world once the caps are tossed in the air. The view of Mother B will get nostalgically sweeter each passing year.

A modicum of respect and acknowledgement of you as Sir or Ma’am already await you somewhere. This sign is adjacent a particular Commanding Officer’s parking spot:Any Ensign.jpeg

As newly commissioned Ensigns and Second Lieutenants, Fleet Sailors and Fleet Marine Force Marines will be observing you and sizing you up. They’ll want to see what “whatcha got”. Earn their respect by knowing your job and taking care of your people. There will be much more to accomplish beyond the tidy confines of the Yard. So, observe, listen and learn. New and challenging experiences await you.

Here’s wishing the USNA Class of 2021 and the nation's newest officers only the very best. Stay well. Good Luck!

And precisely at 1100, the Blues have done their Circle and Arrival pass overhead. You cannot mistake the roar of a military jet. The practice show begins at 1400, exactly the same as the Wed show. They pass right over our deck
:tomcat::tomcat::tomcat::tomcat::tomcat::tomcat:

It is always a good thing to feel your breastbone vibrate with the sound of freedom.

And to get you in the mood, here’s a fun perspective shown from the many watercraft who come out to watch. The Blue Angels show is done over the Severn River, with a big orange float as show center point. For boat people, the sound and proximity are unbeatable.
From the Class of 2018 show:

I’m actually laughing right now. A client called me, and while we were on the phone out on my deck, two of the Blues roared overhead, drowning out our conversation. He is an SES with military aviation background, and immediately laughed and knew what it was. We’ll talk later. Better things to listen to and catch a glimpse of right now.

DH is going as an invited guest to the show tomorrow. Limited capacity, so I nobly told him he should be the one to go. He’s been scouting the wx reports.

A 21 mom just posted pictures of the arrival, goosebump-inducing for sure. I am so happy for 21 and their families. Fair winds and following seas to all grads!!

Here's hoping for CAVU.
CAVU (Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited) or Severe Clear weather for all guests. @THParent, it just has to be that way for the Blue Angels and Commissioning Week. Makes me want to get a double scoop of pistachio on a waffle cone from the Ice Cream Company and take in the show. I hope that everyone is having a super time.

We will be there tomorrow and I’m beyond excited! We were honored to be invited by our DS roommate’s brother. So honored and a good chance to learn when its our turn in years!

As good military people do the night before, DH just lint-brushed his summer-weight navy blazer. It will be worn over a white class crest polo and sharply-pressed khakis, with Bill the Goat web belt and the 2020 A-N Game signature pattern socks. He has carefully affixed his tiny highly polished 14 kt wings of gold (a gift from me years ago) in his lapel. And the salt-stained but clean CO’s ball cap from his carrier command, Ray Bans laid out next to keys (to the Vette, of course). Shoes are shined. The well-dressed OG. 😎

This sounds like a screenplay page. I am envisioning it in my mind. Enjoy CaptMJ DH! And @Capt MJ I hope you have a favorite cocktail ready for the hammock.

The OG uniform of choice. At reunions before the class of around 1990 or so will have 100s of men dressed this way. It’s like finding Waldo, instead of finding a Plebe, it’s finding your OG. All jokes aside, all treasured and beloved items on a day of Navy Pride; the Blues and a welcoming to our newest baby OGs, 2021!

I was going to make the same observation, knowing he will blend in, and I had exactly the same Waldo thought in mind. The only thing that seems to vary is the tiny lapel pin for the men, or the Navy-related tie pattern.

Of course, there is Ultra OG, dedicated navy blazer with sewn-on class crest, and class crest on every other possible item. There is also retro-cool OG, with navy and gold checkered Vans slip-ons or skate shoes. 🤣 Oh, and throw in the Tag Heuer USNA class crest watch. There will be some Ultras strolling around. I enjoy it the display of pride and family feeling.

I would definitely wear the Vans. I actually don’t have a lot of class crest stuff. Some cups and mugs, a polo, a t shirt and a lunch bag (I actually used this daily when I went to the office). Now my Navy Basketball collection is rather vast.

One of our sponsor sons, a San Clemente surfer to the bone and captain of USNA volleyball team (of course), wore those Vans, as did his grooms, at their beach wedding.

Half my moms family is from San Clemente. My uncle taught science and his own kids did water polo and swimming. Such a beautiful town.

I'm actually wearing just about this today for my role in the official pre-Memorial Day wreath laying for my county. Swap the ballcap for a veteran's association cap as well as a tie instead of a polo.
One other deviation - the other wreath layers and I are all friends and one of them (retired Army E8) challenged the rest of us to wear our ribbons so the blazer is appropriately ribboned instead of a class crest.

Natty, very natty.

So...how DOES the weather look for today’s display? I had seen it was Supposed to be extra hot today, not so bad for commissioning tomorrow??
