Committing ED then transferring AROTC Scholarship

I was recently deferred by my first choice school early action. I’m planning on committing to play sports for another school. The coaches can ensure that I’m admitted if commit EDII. Since I’ve already accepted the scholarship to another school, am I going to be able to transfer it relatively painlessly? Do I have to wait until I’m officially denied from the other school to request a transfer, or can I do that preemptively?

Great that youve accepted the scholarship as this reserves your scholarship slot.
You can request a transfer at any point. You best have an acceptance letter for the school you wish to transfer too. Much of the process depends on the available slots at the gaining institution. Hopefully it will be a yes and you will have a recruiter or someone to help you weave through the paperwork. I would wait until you have admission/guaranteed admission, but you don’t have to wait until you’re denied. In fact, you can req. a transfer w/o being denied. I am going to flag @Montana State Army ROTC as they will have the best advice.

Just to confirm you're in full understanding of a couple of nuances:
Early Decision (I or II) is binding -you're agreeing to go to that school and pay whatever scholarships do not.
It sounds like you applied EA (Early action to your top choice school - let's call that Harvard). Harvard in their early action (non-binding) decision advised they are not accepting or rejecting you, but deferring your admission decision to a later time.
The coaches, at your second choice school, we'll call that Princeton, have advised that if you commit (legally binding) to them and to play a sport at their school, Princeton will admit you in the Early Decision II round.
You're thinking about committing to Princeton before confirming your AROTC scholarship will be OK to transfer there? Do you see an issue with that? Are you wealthy/ don't care if you can't use the ROTC scholarship at Princeton while you also play a sport?
Do you want to play the sport at Princeton or just use that for leverage? Do you think you'll have time to do both ROTC and a sport your freshman year as a recruited athlete?
Questions:
1. Was "Princeton" / school 2 one of the schools itemized as offering you the scholarship in your AROTC scholarship letter/ portal?
2. If school 1 ("Harvard") comes back and accepts you in a couple of months, do you really want to be committed to Princeton already, in a binding contract?
3. What do you want? If you actually want princeton over Harvard, and want to play the sport, and don't care if you have to pay cash for Princeton if your scholarship isn't transferred, then no worries. But I think you from an outsiders view may be jumping the gun on committing Before you confirm if this scholarship can transfer, and before school #1 decides on whether or not they’ll accept you. Do you see alternatives that would keep your options open?
Hope all that helps.

Your use of "another school" in two contexts is confusing.

A key point was raised by CuriousMid1001. In order to transfer the scholarship, you need to demonstrate that you have been accepted by the school to which you want it transferred. You should also let the PMS or ROO of that school that you have an AROTC scholarship which you want to transfer. The sooner you can get proof of being admitted the better, because you want to get this done before scholarship slots have been filled up.

I cant say it will be painless, but Cadet Command likes to show cadets can handle the demands of AROTC and team sports.
