Just to confirm you're in full understanding of a couple of nuances:
Early Decision (I or II) is binding -you're agreeing to go to that school and pay whatever scholarships do not.
It sounds like you applied EA (Early action to your top choice school - let's call that Harvard). Harvard in their early action (non-binding) decision advised they are not accepting or rejecting you, but deferring your admission decision to a later time.
The coaches, at your second choice school, we'll call that Princeton, have advised that if you commit (legally binding) to them and to play a sport at their school, Princeton will admit you in the Early Decision II round.
You're thinking about committing to Princeton before confirming your AROTC scholarship will be OK to transfer there? Do you see an issue with that? Are you wealthy/ don't care if you can't use the ROTC scholarship at Princeton while you also play a sport?
Do you want to play the sport at Princeton or just use that for leverage? Do you think you'll have time to do both ROTC and a sport your freshman year as a recruited athlete?
Questions:
1. Was "Princeton" / school 2 one of the schools itemized as offering you the scholarship in your AROTC scholarship letter/ portal?
2. If school 1 ("Harvard") comes back and accepts you in a couple of months, do you really want to be committed to Princeton already, in a binding contract?
3. What do you want? If you actually want princeton over Harvard, and want to play the sport, and don't care if you have to pay cash for Princeton if your scholarship isn't transferred, then no worries. But I think you from an outsiders view may be jumping the gun on committing Before you confirm if this scholarship can transfer, and before school #1 decides on whether or not they’ll accept you. Do you see alternatives that would keep your options open?
Hope all that helps.
